yes and yes

Normal weld will work

Welded and gussetted would be better

I was going to weld it grind it down smooth and gusset it. So it should hold then.

That should do the trick. Mine are holding up great after a couple years' beating...

Check this for other locations to gusset while you are at it.

since i am a certified welder, i would say make sure it there is a V groove between the 2 pieces to enshure full penetration. then like the others said gusset it. good luck.

Can I use a stick welder for this? Also I have some 6013 rod which I know is to aggressive for the frame. What rod would you recomend?

Just a basic MIG ot TIG wedler would work fine. I used a MIG when I gusseted my frame. I think the size was a 125, I'm not totaly shure how they clasify the sized of wedlers.

yea i wouldnt use a stickwelder for this. for 1 the welds dont look good/2 they are not good for thin metal{if you dont know what your doing}/3 i would just get a mig or tig welder. a mig would be better if your not the best welder in the world. its easy somewhat strong and the welds look good. and the best part is that there cheap.
{if you a good stick welder try it. stick welders are strong but are sloppy}

i would also reinforce the frame. IMO once it breaks its never the same and will break agin.

I have a stick welder and I'm pretty good with it also I don't have acces to a mog or tig. All the welds are going to be smoothed out and splatter will be sanded off. I know 6013 is deep penetrating, was wondering what stick would be best. 7018?

well we use 7018 rods for all our pipe welding we do, but like the other people these frames are thin. u would have to get a rod smaller than 3/32 to use lower heat and not just blow right through. but i would really suggest using a mig or tig. a 6013 rod is weaker than a 7018 6013 only has 60000 psi tensile strength compared to 7018 70000 psi tensile strength 6013 is a maintnace rod used to weld over rust and paints and what not

Alright I'm gonna break down and buy a mig welder to take care of this. Thanks for your guys help before I burned my frame up. Sometimes it's better to ask someone that does it for a living. Thanks.
