mine had that also. I found it when I tore the motor apart to fix third gear. ............... Don't get excited. Breaking third gear was a very isolated, kind of odd thing to happen. too long of a story to explain.

They're not on the 04's are they? I've taken that off but I don't recall those screws in my 04.

the '04 has the same screws (and so does the WR450 dirt bike) but I have not heard of any problems with the '04, and I have 3 of them.

I have a 04 and a 06. I checked both and the 06 had one loose. What I did notice is that the 04 had lock tight on them and the 06 did not. I am thinking someone for got to lock tight the 06. Thanks for putting this out there.

I took the cover off a friends new '06 at the races, and his bolts were falling out also.
If you have an '06, CHECK YOUR BOLTS. It's very easy. Just remove the two bolts holding the starter cover on, pull the gear assy strait out, tighten the two bolts under the gears, put the gear assy back in, put the cover back on. That's it. You can do it yourself in less time than it takes you to load and unload your YFZ in your truck.

they would rub against the starter Idler gear, and lock things up, or worse yet, put metal shavings in your engine, that would damage some or all of your bearings/gears/piston/etc..

I dont know if I would put RED loctitie in there, to break the red free you need heat... I would personally just run blue... red isnt in the 04's and they hold fine.

Those bolts snap the heads off easily too... dont ask, but I know firsthand:ermm:

O well, lol looks like i will have fun getting them out,i dont take any chances if it takes a extra minute to heat up,so be it.
