I sand drag race my 400ex and I have the stock gears both front and back. What do u think would be the best sprocket ratios for sand drag racing!!!!!!

for sand drag racing? i dont think you need to change your sprockets, i think you need to change your bike... i'd get that 450r youre talking bout before you worry about sand dragging...

I ride a dvx and let me tell ya, I changed my front 14 point to a 13 and it made a world of difference. Faster wholeshot, took a little top end. Then switched rear 40 point to 42, this gave the quad massive torque out of the whole but took way too much top end.

I would definitly play with sprockets, it can make a world of difference.

the 400ex has no top end as it is and you want to take more from it??? if you want to drag youve got the wrong bike.. the 400ex is a good bike because its less expensive, dependable, and very easy to ride.... its not for racing or dragging... i personally wouldnt waste the time or money on trying to drag a 400ex, nor would i ruin a pretty good trail riding bike for it... just my 2 cents, but... ??? whatever you want to do..

Ok if 400ex lacks top end, go smaller on front sprocket and bigger on rear sprocket. Its a low cost mod that you will see results in. Also, if you don' t like it just sell the darn thing on eby, you get most of your money back anyway.

yah, go 13/42- then your 400ex will top out at 54mph... at that is winding it out all the way... not too mention in sand it'll be even slower, and youre still gunna get smoked by most bikes out there... if you really wanna drag, change your bikes out, not the parts out... its like trying to build a chevy s-10 to pull a big 5th wheel, im sure with a lot of mods you could get it done, but i'd much rather just get a big duramax that was designed for that...

I smoke most guys with same or lower cc's modded or not with my 400. Its not just a trail bike, and you can mod anything to make it what u want.

400ex isn't that bad of a quad. never had one smoke me...yet.
bottom line a 400 is a 400 and a 450 is a 450 potato potatoe what eva.

whata you mean "this coming from a guy with a modded 250r"? yah i have a modded 250r- the 250r is the best quad ever made and with simple mods it can beat or hold its own with anything... for instance, until this year by 250r had an engine that was 100% original, and i just had a pipe, silencer, rad valve and filter, and i never got beat by any of the 400s, regardless is they had pipes, 440 kits, cams, etc... whatever ya'll wanna do... people dont race 400exs down at glamis, why, cuz they always lose, if they wanna race they dont ride a 400ex... if the competition is so bad wher youre at that you can hang with a 400ex, great, mod it to drag... i think the 400ex is a great bike, however, i would never own one just cuz it is too slow plaiin and simple... and yes, i have ridden several of them... and going back to s-10 duramax comparison, yah you could probably rig an s10 to pull a 5th wheel, but its never gunna be as good as a duramax same with your 400ex, you can do a lot to it and waste a lot of cash, but my 250 is still gunna smoke you

ok pay attention to the posts...the guy with the 400ex isn't who you are talkin too.

Im the guy with the dvx400, and i eat those 250's for breakfast lunch and diner. don't get me wrong they are great quads stock or with a few mods but if you have equally qualified riders on each the only way the 250 usually wins is if he gets the whole shot which will not happen as long as the 400 is on his game.

ive paid plenty of attention to the posts... i think you must be confusing me for a 250ex, i'm glad you can beat them... i ride a 250R, "R" buddy, and plain and simple i'll smoke your dvx... i'm not sure what you are smokin thinkin your dvx smokes 250rs, but it must be soomething good so why dont u pass some this way... :)
but if youre ever down at glamis i'll meet up with you and show you how bad your dvx is/isnt...

don't you guys get it those mods are on my 2004 400ex, thats why i posted this forum. Now I have a 2006 450 with no mods, I just haven't changed my profile. If it makes you happy I will.

this is funny...i have my thoughts on it as i have a 400 and my buddy, who goes by lonestar_r on here, has a majorly modded out 250r, and of course we do the mine is better crap that everyone sles does. so when we go to prove it he is...ah, you know what, i think i'll keep that to myself for now...

the day the 400ex is better than my 250r is the day i open up the gas cap, toss a match in it, and never ride again... really though.. unless youve had serious, and i mean serious work (like nos and alky and just worked) youre not gunna beat me... being completely honest- when my engine was still stock and i had pipe filter etc... i was never beat by a 400 (honda, suzuki, kawi, etc...), and i raced them with pipe, cams, 440s, etc... i wont lie there were some 450s that handed me my butt when i was stock, and thats part of the reason i went 265... i took some 450s, some took me... but never any of the 400s... and especially with my 265, seriously, if i ever have a 400ex smoke me that isnt tricked out to the frickin limit, i will torch my 250r... in aint happening though... we'll see how the new 450s and new raptors are next week- headidn down to the dunes for the 1st time next weekend and im sure i'll get to race plenty of the 06s... we'll see how it goes...

I never said that my 400ex will beat you, i do know ive beat some other 250r though. Like you said we'll find out how the 06 450r does when you go. Have a blast while your there!!!

OH YEAH ? My sister can kick your dad's a**. LOL. There is always someone faster. Thats what drives this and all other sports. not saying my bike will beat a 250r but all the ones ive every seen ran like a piece of **** or ran at all ive rode some pretty fast ex's i dont see why you cant build it for drag racing

If you think about it sand drags a quad down alot. With that resistance you lose speed. We did 62 mph in the sand stock gears, we put a 13 instead of the stock 14 and a 36 in the back and we gained 2 mph we got a little higher on rpms in 5th than the stock set up. we had to shorten the chain a couple. i have a sand chain and sprockets and then i have my trail chain and sprockets. I beat stock 400s out of the hole bad and then we are not budging until i hit 5th and started to pull on them.

the bad thing is the internal gear ratios are different on the 05 and 06 then the 99-04 so i dont know how it will work on the previous models

Just to let you guys now the air scoops work,i have the sender in the oil tank, i am usually about 245-285 degrees on the trails, if i cruise on a flat the temperature drops quick to 180 degrees I recommend them for all 400ex.
