Stupid Newbie Question??!?!?!

Ok, well this is my first sport quad, which also makes it my first quad with a clutch. I got told something by a neighbor today, and cannot tell if he knew what he was talkinga bout or not, so here is goes:

Once you use the clutch to get goin in first, do you need to grab the clutch to shift into 2nd, 3rd, and so on??? He told me once i get the thing moving i do not need to grab the clutch to switch gears. Is this true???

you don't need to clutch once you are moving to get into highergears. it's physically possible not to use it.

but you should. clutch is there for a reason, and the guys sporting "i never use it cept when launching" seem to come back here asking how to replace shifter forks.

Thanks for the answers. I"m not goin to do it all the time, but it's nice to know that it's possible.
