what dose it mean to get your engine ported and polished? what are the benfits i hear everyone doing it but i dont know what it is lol

the head of the bike in stock form has casting marks in the intake and exhaust ports which causes turbulance to the air and fuel entering and leaving the cylinder. by porting they mean they are opening the port for optimum fuel volume, to much opening and you decrease the velocity of the fuel defeating your effort. the exhaust is polished so carbon doesn't build up and the exhaust gasses escape faster = faster velocity= better cylinder volume = faster exhaust = faster bike. you are attempting to overall make everyting flow better. like a pump.
