im rebuilding my 440 im just goin from 10:1 compression to 11:1. and goin from stock cam to hotcam stage 2. how much of a gain u think this would be built right. and also i did a search and couldnt find anything but someguy on here said he was gonna do a port and polish by himself and didnt see how it turned out. would it work? would i even notice anyting? any help would be great thanks.

i have seen port jobs from some builders. not impressive to say the least. most just do a clean up which you can do yourself. the serious engine builders that change the shape of the port (d shaped porting) now they may be worth their money but you can clean up the casting marks and smooth out the exhaust runners yourself. i did mine and it only took a few hours of grinding and blending. did make a difference. since i did it myself it was deffinetly worth the effort.

u should feel a huge gain going from stock cam to hotcam, and 10:1 to 11:1, while having a 440 bore

im not sure what compression piston is in it cause i did a compression test it was 120 psi. and i heard from someone on here that the had a 11:1 compression and did a test and came up with 100 psi. 120 sounds low so im assuming its 10:1 compression piston. if it realy is 11:1 then im gonna go up to 12:1. do u guys think its 11:1 to one.

You probably have 11:1 but have the ex head and base gaskets wich lower the compression.

Get XR gaskets.

If your pulling it apart anyway.. jsut pull the part mumber off of the piston and to a cross reference to see what compression the piston is before ordering a new one.

ok gonna be tearing apart the motor here pretty soon. if i go with 12:1 compression would i only need bigger headstuds. ive heard mixed things about it. i heard people say theres had no problems. havent heard a whole lot of problems with the headstuds. i sent a pm to c&d racing and they said it should handle it.

youll want a HD rod for reliablility... you dont wanna be throwing money away if your rod breaks killing your whole motor

ok this might be a stupid question im gettin a manual before i tear this thing apart but will i have to split the cases to change the connecting rod. then if i do this mine as well get hd studs and go u to 13:1 right.

i have been running the 13:1 je piston for a season now with stock head studs, and stock rod. i just replaced the rod because lack of oil killed the bearing, rod was still fine.

you should notice a gain from the cam and piston. i wouldn't expect a huge gain from a ported head.

great news i got 847 dollars to spend plus my 300 dollar paycheck i get every week. what all can i do to make this 440 scream. but the thing is i want to save some of this money for my suspension upgrades also. i was thinking 13:1 piston headstuds. hd rod. and stage 2 hotcam and probaly change the cam chain. and maybe send the head out to c&d racing for port and polish. also can i take the rod off if i only take the top end off or do i need to split the cases.

yeah u'll have to split the cases to put in the rod. the list u made up looks good! good luck on u'r quad.
