well i ride at a few different places and most of them require the flags. thier all 15 bucks a pop and seem to break every ride. so i was going threw my rockymoutain cataglog and came accross a metal flag with a spring. 15 bucks apiece, just like the crappy fiber glass ones.

rockymoutain shipped me one and it bends 90 degrees without issues. at first when i pulled it out of the box, it was only a foot long but then i realized you have to pull on it and it extends out like a telescope type thing. any way just thought some of you guys might benefit from one of these, its well worth the money over the fiberglass ones.

when its not extended..

fully extended...

and the spring flexing instead of snapping like the fiberglass ones do..

I had one, it will break just give it time. They are alot nicer and do hold up better than the fiberglass ones.

I would be afraid of anything that extends. Typically, those that extend also bend far too easily, even if the base is spring-loaded.

I've broken several flags, I've got a whole collection of them. Typically, the fiberglass ones break right at the base. I bought a quick-release. When it breaks, I cut off the frayed end, drop the piece that is still sitting in my quick-release, and re-install. Within minutes I'm on my way, and my flag is a couple inches shorter.

i have one that instead of being the wimp 1/4" galss, it is about 5/8" at the base had it for years but only using it about twice a year. only broke one since '99. it is actually made for trucks and buggies but goes right into the hole on a quad.

A quick release is the way to go:cool:

I ride alot of trails at the dunes and even flipped the quad a few times but the only time i've broken a flag was when I went too far back doing a wheelie and stood the quad up on the grab bar. The only reason it broke was because I pushed the quad back down with my foot while still laying on the flag:ermm:

There are some flag poles that are made out of CB antenna with a spring base.

Then there's this option.....

Thats cool.

The one time I broke a flag was in some whoops.

This whooped section going from the dunes to the nearest store...got about 5 whoops in and it snapped off:mad:

May have to get one if we start going to the dunes more often

I guess Im lucky. I have yet to buy a whip. I have three that I found at different times, all at the same riding area. I have only broken one and it was at the base. I cut it off and stuck it back in and rode. Its funny to see how short some flags are in the dunes, many are just over the riders head:ermm:
