View Full Version : what stage of hotcams?

what stage of hotcams do you guys think i should get for motocross..my mods are shortened t4 slip on exhaust, 416 kit, aftermarket airbox..no lid, twin air filter, heavy duty cam chain, and was told mildly port and polished. i have heard guys with this say 1 and i have heard 3. to me a stage 3 seems overkill...i personally am leaning for the stage 2. is there a chance that if i got the stage 3 when anything over a stage 2 is not needed, that it mite make less horspower than the stage 2. just info me up..

the bigger the stages doesnt necessarily mean more horsepower does it...for example, if u had a stock ex and put a stage 3 in it, would it make less than the 1 or the 2?

i believe hot cams refers to the stage's of cams (1,2 &3) as a reference to where the cam makes power. from what ive read, stage 3 works well but makes its power high in the prm range.

the stage 2 we rane with a 426 11-1 compression ran like a whipped dog! power was good down low and the midrange was more then enough for MX.
