drag race on pavement.
06 trx bone stock
04 yfz hmf exhaust

both very good expert class racers and winners

at start the trx flat smoked him all the way till 5th gear pinned, then the yfz very slowly caught and passed him.

I assume they were both at their rev limit.

raced quiet a few times, prolly for bout a hr. just got my 06 on friday and broke it in then we dragged, the yfz got me a few times cuz i was still learning the clutch(im used to yamaha) and how the bike rode but once i figured it out i would pull in every gear then by 5th the yfz top end would get me.

The yfz was stock I am assuming. Both riders were equal weight and ability? Ability makes a big difference ofcoarse. Did you have a chance to trade quads and race?? It sounds like the new trx450 is pretty sweet then because most drag races are done by the time you get to 5th anyway.
I was drag racing a crf450r this weekend and beat him everytime in a 300yrd drag, because he made one too many mistakes. I am not the fastest rider by any means but I don't make many mistakes. A crf450 should kill me every time.

yfz had a hmf pipe, thats the only engine mods, and we are both same height and within 5lbs, and the yfz rider raced 3 weeks ago in expert class and won and i raced the same race in novice and took 3rd overall, and ya we did trade and race quiet a few times.

Sounds like the Honda basically took it then? There are not too many races decided in 5th gear are they? That's not bad for a stocker against a piped yfz. It sounds like if anything he is the better rider and you still pulled him up to fifth.

Ya off the line the trx hooks up alot better, i was on stock tires and he has some new innovas on his, still took him like a champ.

When I get my 06 I'm putting a 14 tooth front sprocket on it.

i dont think so. honda could find a longer chain to use without much problems.

A 14 won't fit till the chain wears in a little...tried it. Most chain adjusters don't move enough to cut/add a link and readjust.
