on my 400 ex I run 22 inch kenda bear claws great in mud not bad in snow Ive seen paddles (the best for deep powdery snow)but when the trails are made the bear claws are a damn good year round tire they are heavier but Ive had them go flat & the sidewalls are so stiff you can ride home 30 plus miles take it off the rim inspect it & fix it with no internal or case damage,no 2ply can do that!

Dirt Devils are another good snow/mud tire. I have a set of 22" for when its real muddy or it has snowed a lot and I cant complain about them either and they are 6 ply also.

Had them Maxxis 4-Snow tires on my 400ex and it was unreal in the snow.

I run OEM 20" tires filled with about 48 of these in each tire..............

I made a set too. I used 18" turf tamers though, I think I put around 44 in each.

Those are only trail studs though. They wont hook up as good as the shovels and picks that we used. Although I belive Im going to try the trail studs this year for crossing roads and stuff cause the steel picks wear too fast. Im puttin mine in 18" tamers too.

Also it looks like you put your backers on upside down for the studs.

I used washers instead using the backers to save money.
The studs have a washer on the inside and outside of the tire.

I was thinking about making a set of footguards for protection, I wouldn't to tear up my leg with them.

Oh I see, I think Im going to try plastic backers this year and see how they hold up. I might even try some of those doublebackers to hold the studs a little stiffer. Also my tamers are grooved so I wont have the washers squashing lugs. LOL.

Mine are rock solid, they don't move at all. I pounded on them hard last winter with my 250R and they held up great.
The squashed lugs seem to help for support I think, haha

Yeah I see what your sayin. I was thinking of actually running the stud straight through the lug, but I dont know what I would run for a backer, cause that would be sweet. I'll probably just run the studs in the grooved areas and then screws in the lugs. Shouldn't have any problems hookin up!

Ya that should work. I think I may fab up some massive footguards for protection, are you running footguards on yours?

anyone use stock 300ex tires in the snow? i would guess they would work better than 400 or 450r tires since they are rounder and balloon style.. is this the case? if it is im gonna pick up a set

I really dont think they're going to be any better to be honest. The only problem I had was the trails weren't packed really hard and I would just dig down and get hung up on the skids.

hmm well they are 22's so they would give better ground clearance and im pretty sure ballon tires would float over the snow more than a square tire but i guess ill just have to try and see. does anyone have anything Bad to say about stock 300 tires in snow before i get some

I dont think the balloon design will float any better.
