It seems like everyone and their brother around here now runs down at the local drag strip, I'm thinking about running mine but a quatermile seems really harsh on a motor, anyone else run theirs down at the track, any motors blow or anything? lol

at the moment with my motor I have untouched gearing and 20 inch rears, I still think I'd top out waaaaay before the end and have to keep on going :ermm:

are you talking cars/trucks or 4-wheelers?

kinda caught my attention ebcause no one ever talks about running wheelers down the 1320 not even hardcore drag bikes really the 8th is too long for a wheeler i think

thats what I'm thinking cause alot of them run almost every friday and I hear the 400ex's bounce off rev limiter etc at the end and only run 18's and such.. so I wanna check it out before I even attempt to run mine lol, got to much money in the motor to trash it but seeing how fast it goes is kinda.. tempting

I went to the drag strip last weekend on my 426ex, my best time was 9.436 at 67mph with a .5201 reaction time and that was on my first run ( 1/8 mile ). All my other passes ranged from 9.5's to 9.7's, I got slower all night, but its hard to be consistent running nobby tires, plus I wasn't giving my engine much time to cool down. I'm going back this weekend with some slicks (TT tires). That was running stock gearing 15/38, there was another 426ex there running 14/38 gearing and he made a 9.231 pass, so I'm gonna change my sprocket to. There was a yzf450 that ran a 8.24 ( didn't see the speed ) on his best pass and 8.5's the rest of the time. It had a cutis sparks racing engine ( not sure what all the internals were ). And the fastest 450R ran a 8.571 for the night. This was a test & tune night and it being this late into drag season there as many of us on quads and several street bikes than there were cars. There were a bunch of decked out banshee's there to and they were the slowest quads there, but I would say it would be a different story in the 1/4 where they could winde out, I would like to run a 1/4 mile drag strip to see my top speed because the 1/8 mile is not long enough to top out.

Well the idea would be to gear the quad so it tops out (hits rev limiter) in high gear as you cross the finish line. Wether its 1/8 or 1/4.

up here banshees run a high 7 or low 8 on the 1/8 and they top out before the end

Last time i was at the track on a friday night there was a Banshee with an extended lonestar frame built for sand drags only, couldn't tell you the motor mods but it ran 10.7's in the 1/4 mile. I can't remember the MPH, but I know I wouldn't want to ride that thing in the sand!!!
