Well I got the stud out, wasn't too bad in the end. We went to order a new stud, and the dealer says that it'll be awhile. I kinda need the 400 for the weekend, so I'm wondering if you can just pop in a bolt, same thread and size as the stud? It's for a 400ex if it matters. I don't assume this would be a problem at all, just want to know better safe than sorry, ya know?

A bolt will work fine.Just make sure it doesn't bottom out before it tightens up.Better yet get a bolt as long as the stud and cut off the head, double nut the end so you can tighten it up into the head, remove the nuts and your good to go.

That's great news.
Will any regular stainless steel bolt work alright? And should I put anti-seize or loc-tite on it? Second thought, I don't think I want to put loc-tite on it.

it should work fine just don't over tighten it.A harder grade(like a grade 8) would be my choice.

Dont put ANY loktite on it. May as well have dealer order a few spares; they're only about 80 cents each.

The reason Honda uses stud/nut as opposed to solid bolt is the stud stays inserted at all times. If you had 4 bolts each time you took the pipe/head off you would have to remove the 4 bolts and risk messing up the aluminum threads in the head.
