What do you seasoned veterans prefer? the klaw or the knarly?
Since I don't race and mainly trail ride my 400ex on the farm what would you guys suggest?

I wouldn't say that I'm a seasoned vet but the Knarly's are best for trails. They hook up great, slide predictably and they are a 6 ply tire so they have great puncture resistance. I have Knarly's and have run them in mud(not deep), snow(about 7-10") and dry and they do very well in all 3 conditions.

i love my klaws. I didnt want the 6 ply because I never get flat rear tires and dont like the heavy feeling of the 6ply

my knarlys are 2years old and still holding up over half the tread is still left.. only one flat and that was caused by a nail. they work great in about every situation.

You can't beat the Knarly's on a 400ex. They last longer than the quad!:D Neither tire hooks for shiot on a higher torque bike like the 450r or the YFZ. Knarly is the only way to go on a 400 though!!

haha i've done quite a bit of tennessee farm trail riding myself. I ran 6 ply Klaws and my buddy ran Knarlys. Neither one of us had problems but the Klaws are probably going to be more durable.

Where in TN are you located?

I have knarly's on my crf450r conversion quad, I like them, the tires are almost a year old and have 1/2 tread, they have been getting chopped up lately due to where I've been riding(hard clay and rocks. Where I used to ride they got almost no wear, kinda sandy mx track and soft loam.

What about for desert riding? What would be good on a built 450R w/ engine work? Would some XCRs or HDs be better? I hear they wear faster though and I'm not into going through tires like socks. I have been looking at the Klaws for 165 with reds.

Well my Knarlys came in and I just got them mounted on new ITP's. Awesome, great hook up and the slide very well. Would say they are worth the money (although not very expensive). Thanks to all the guys that gave input.

Steven450r, I'm not real sure if they are st"s. These are 20x11x9.
If yours are mxr's are they 18 inch?

There are 3 different Knarlys -the 18 in MXR, the 20 and 22 inch Knarly HT, and the 21 inch Knarly XC.

I run the XC rears and Klaw fronts on my Dale and havent ever been any happier with a tire set-up.

400ex28 has the Klaws and they hook up very nice...ive ridden his 400 with them and they have great traction, sliding characteristics, and offer plenty of acceleration due the 18" tire

I would think that since I had them on my 450r, I would know whether or not they hooked up! I like the tires for longevity, but for hook-up, it's only Holeshot XCR's for me!!:macho
Maybe you should try some Holeshots so you can learn the difference between hook-up & wheel spin!

It appears that he has a 400ex, so he made a good choice!

The Knarlys hook up better than the Holeshots I had on my Dale, and belive me, Meek knows what hes talking about.
