I just trail ride and run with no air box lid and I am just wandering who else runs with out a lid. I am nervous about getting water and mud in my air box. I run a K&N filter with pre-filter. I am just wonder if I should cut the stock lid but I do not want to loose any performance compare to running with out a lid.

I run without a lid all the time, have since I bought it. I mostly race MX, but I havent had any problems. As long as you have the filter on the boot nice and tight.

ya I have never ran with me lid on. I even ran the Idaho WORC's race with out it in about 5" of mud and water puddles with no problem.

Thanks. I can't get the jetting right with the lid on. And it just plan runs alot better with it off. I never owned a quad with touchy jetting like this it likes alot of air. My last quad was a 2002 Raptor and with 2 cabs on it was not as touchy. I would never go back to it though the more I ride this 450R the more I can not stay off of it.

I have ran without an air box lid....not such a good idea. I ran into some problems with dust getting into my carb, I had to buy a whole new HRC carb. The best way that i found was to drill the inch wholes and buy the plugs for the lid....

It does like a lot of air, thats for sure! Especially if its jetted correctly.

Get yourself an EHS airbox lid. They use the stock lid, cut out the top, and sandwich an outerwears inbetween the lid and an aluminum frame. I race cross country and havent had any problems with water. I used a K&N jet kit and jetted it like I was not running a lid. With the EHS lid it ran perfect. Highly recomend it.

EHS lid is a ripoff. Z71 get the Outerwears airbox cover for 20bucks from nacs over a hrc lid and then wrap your prefilter you have now over the white intake tube, so all the air that enters the box will be prefiltered.

I run with no lid.. I made a custom airbox cover that covers a little over half of the box but still allows air in. Im running a 190main.. 50pilot with air screw 3 turns out

if u are affraid of water entering the air box......
why dont you remove the drain plug a the bottom of tha air box ,so if water gets in....it will get out;)

thanks. I think that hole is a one way plug it is designed to let the water out. I don't want to remove it.It will let more dust in.I have a outerwears cover on order.

You wont have problems if u clean ur air filter regularly, make sure its on the whole way, n stuff like that...i run w/o it all the time.
