Ok im completly noob when it comes to any type of racing other then Hair Scrambles. Just getting that out there. I was looking at the pictures from an extreme dirt track race and I cant get over how small the tires are in back. The fronts are normal size around 22's im guessing but the back looked like 8's. For hair scrambles I run 22's in front and 20's in back. Please fill me in!

The smaller the tire, the better the acceleration...but less speed.

Not sure why they would seriously use 8 inch tires, but yeah...Thats the idea behind smaller tires

I dont really know how small they were in back I was just throwing a number up. I would think speed would have something to do with the race but i guess rapped out in 5th is plenty of top speed. I never really thought about it but it makes perfect sence! Thanks.

i chose to put 18's in the rear, 19's in the front for two reasons. one, it lowers the quad. 2, more acceleration. i feel that it was a good choice since i do not have to worry about the negative effects of lowering kits...

Cool, I like the handling of lowering the bike but you gotta have ground clearance in XC. Plus the elka's I run, you can lower the ride heigth. Thanks for the input

yeah, guys at my track do that too, especially on blasters

but they run a small rear sprocket so acceleration doesn't increase, i think its pretty wierd

I run a 59 inch and a 61 inch tire for flat track racing, i didnt think they were that small

First of all that was a kid riding that quad, that's why they do that. You have a full size chassis or 3/4 size chasis and a small displacement motor, so you need the wheel size change to regain your acceleration. Not to mention and 80cc 2-stroke does not want to spin an 18 inch rear tire very quickly. For the other guy with the 59 and 61-inch tires, those are the compounds of the rubber on those tires I think, they are definitely not the sizes. Food for thought: How many teeth would you need on a rear sprocket for those tires to pull a holeshot.

compounds dont run that high...and 59 and 61 is probably the measurement around the tire.
