Does anyone know if a stock 400ex axle will fit into a 250x/300ex bearing carrier. Will the gear and brake assemblies work? I know a lot of riders do the front arm conversion but I don't see much about the axle? Anyone tried this?

It won't fit unless you swap the whole rear end including the swingarm which isn't easy. The 350x axle will fit. I'm not sure how much wider it is though.

Yep, Thanks 300exOH. It looks like the entire bearing carrier would need to be swapped or a spacer would need to be made to take up some of the slack for the lock nut. It's to bad it is not a direct swap. ( I used the search after I posted) What nice way to get a wider rear end. Oh well. The threads on one one side of my stocker 250x are about wasted and I say a stock 400ex axle on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda-400ex-axle_W0QQitemZ4577947692QQcategoryZ43971QQrdZ1QQcm dZViewItem) and I thought it might be a good swap.

It wouldn't be hard to make a spacer for the lock nut. If thats all it would take to get it to fit.

get a 350x axle, its 2 inches wider, but you have to use 350x or liquid cooled 250r hubs, also the 350x axle is stronger.

So deathman53 are you saying it basically is a direct swap? The 350x axle (lock nut, ring gear and brake rotor) fit in the 250x/300ex bearing carrier? No messing around trying to make stuff like spacers...... etc.

thats what I was told by a few people, there is a guy near me that put a 300ex carrier, 300ex axle and 300ex hubs in his 350x, so why wouldn't it work the other way? thats what I was gonna do, but never got around to rebuilding my 350x. and for those who building a 86/87 200x and 83/84 250r axle fits in them if you use all the 250r brake parts(I confirmed this). Also another piece of info that might help you, if you want 250r brakes on your 250x/300ex, use a 250r brake mount, caliper, hub and disc. you need to machine 3.5mm off the inside of the 250r brake hub.

also 350x swingarms fit on 250x/300ex's and are 1 1/2 longer, the fourstroke racers of the early 90's and late 80's would steal the motor, and rear end from 350x's, as well as the intake tube and carb. a 350x and 250x are alot closer than you think. alot of parts interchange between the two.

i have tried to do the 350x boot swap for my 300, but i could never het thething to work, i heated it up and evrything so that it would stretch a little, but it still didnt work
