The Southern Ohio Cross Country Series(SOCCS) went back to Humboldt Hills Motorcycle Club on Saturday, October 1st for the final round of the 2005 season.

Mother Nature shined on race day and gave all the riders perfect trail conditions on a day when all but 3 class championships would be decided.

Raffles were held throughout the day for downed SOCCS rider Lee Gragg. Lee received a serious head injury in a devastating crash two weeks prior at the 4th round of the SOCCS. Fans and fellow racers came out in numbers to show their support by donating to the raffle, sponsored by Chucks Cycle Shop of Greenfield and Humboldt Hills. Then Lee made everyone’s day by making an appearance at the race to show off the improvements he is already making.

When the first flag dropped and the racing began for the 50cc micro bikes, it was a runaway for KTM rider Allen Jones until some Mechanical problems threatened his lead on fellow KTM rider Cole Geil. But Allens pit crew got him back on track as he managed to take the overall win and take the 2005 SOCCS 50 Senior Championship. Although Geil finished 2nd overall, he was still 1st in his class.

After the micros. It was the youth atvs turn. With Mathew Harris already clinching the miniatv senior title, the battle was for second in the points between Ciera Bobb, Nathan Cramblit and Alex VanFossin. When the race began, Nathan Cramblit pulled a huge holeshot over the pack and never looked back. Nathan rode strong all day and won by a 2 minute margin over Mathew Harris followed by first time SOCCS racer Levi Minney in 3rd. The mini Atv junior class battled back and forth throughout the day with Tristan Garrett moving into first just before the last lap by passing Tiffany Konkler and secured his first SOCCS title. Trenner Wile took 2nd with a last lap pass leaving Konkler in 3rd.

In the minis, Cody Sayre finally pulls off a win over 2005 80 senior champion Zach Wilson. Brady Riley finished 3rd in the overall, but another win for him in the 80 Junior class means he goes undefeated with 5 of 5 wins and is the 80 junior champion. Josh Kellough won and secured the 65cc championship as well.

As the big bikes lined up, everyone was talking about the 1-point lead Jeremy Gragg Held over Aaron Branham. The winner of today’s race would receive $1000.00.Gragg lead for the first 2 laps, but Branham was hungry for the win, staying on Jeremy’s rear tire. After a minor soil check by Gragg, Branham moved ahead and steadily pulled away for the win and the title of 2005 SOCCS Pro Bike Champion. Other big bike champions crowned were, 125cc – Anthony DeVito, 250cc – Ryan Daugherty, 4 Stroke Bike – Chad Woods, Heavy Weight novice – Nathan Pitts, Light Weight Novice – Ian Baum, and Veteran Bike – Thomas Dotson.

In the Atvs Todd Demaree made it 3 in a row. While Glenn Coriell took 2nd, which is all he needed to secure the 2005 SOCCS Pro Atv Championship. Other titles in the atvs were, 4 stroke Atv – Jeb Lowder, Atv Novice – Nathan Francis, Open Atv – Brandon Barton, Utility Atv – Lawrence Woods.

After 2 full seasons in the books, it is clear the SOCCS is something the community wants. With many riders having to travel outside the area to race a Harescramble, something close to home is a plus. The outlook is great for the 2006 season, as the series grows every year so will the benefits of having the series close to home. Check www.humboldthills.com for all the series banquet info and the 2006 schedule.
