shock adjustment on 400ex

You may be better off with a spanner wrench not unlike this one...

If you don't have one you could also use a flathead screwdriver and a hammer if you don't mind doing a little damage.

In any case this is the part you're trying to turn. Not sure if you can see where mine is set but it is the stiffest setting. Turn all the way opposite for softest.
