Any ever seen something like this before? I thought the bearings just went bad so we took it into the shop to get it fixed and they found this.

Yes. 300 dollars just for a new carrier and the labor fee just for it was about the same

As much as I really hate to say it......... those stock carriers are junk. they're cast aluminum. The bearings on my stock carrier went out and it brok the whole end of the carrier off. Burgard cycles sells carriers for like $150. They are billet aluminum and much better than the stock ones. watch yourself on ebay carriers b/c my friend picked one up on there and he had to machine to get the spacing right. my 2 cents.

to me it looks like a bad casting...

cast metal (what your carrier is made of) is very sensitive, and can shatter under extreme heat it uffed up enough

your bearing probabbly seized, heated the metal, and then shattered when you hit a bump

and i would never pay $300 for a stock carrier, id rather go out and buy a dual row from lonestar for a much less price, with added protection and strength

Well, the exact same thing happened to my friends 300ex. You should have bought an aftermarket carrier, and did all the work yourself. You would have saved a TON on money.

not trying to be rude but you got ripped off, like everyone else said, billet carriers with doublerow width bearings are only 150-180 depending on brand, and labor 300$$, damn, it takes a while to get the locknut off but after that its cake, i wonder how many hours the shop put into that one, its pretty obvious what happened to it, theres not much else that can be wrong when the axle stops and you hear grinding from the swingarm cuz theres no way that it didnt make a sound

I've seen a fair amount of people break their stock carrier in the 450R. If you replaced it with another factory carrier you may want to keep your eye out for an aftermarket carrier as it will probably happen again.

you got owned for $300. Fixing it is easy and a good thing to know how to do, helps you know everything about the rear end of your 450r. Aftermarket carriers are like $125 and they are alot better then the stock ones
