well, friday was exciting in our school, they finnally got our waterjet that has been in peices for 3 years now put together and running! so our teacher gave me first dibs!!!! seeing as im the only person in the class who has an a and accually respects the teacher

so i jibbled up (if thats a word) these little reinforcement rings for 8 and 10 inch rims

they will be cut out next week sometime when our lesson is over

they wont have the HM logos on them, but i still cant wait to see how thy turn out!

tell me what you think! bet you wish your school had a waterjet!

i didnt really think of emo when i made them lol, i just wanted something different than circles

i have all weekend to make new designs, so you will probbably see me post a couple different ones up

EDIT: also, right now, they are .190 alu.
i didnt know what thickness the ussually are

so if anyone know what omf, or any other companies thickness ratings are, please inform me

i will try it out tonight, any design on a flat 2d like surface is easy, so i can do stars or whatever

im working on a maltese cross version now

how about putting your last name one there or something, that'd be pretty trick :p

450robot
09-24-2005, 08:05 PM
well, i was gonna do jd performance (my name is jeremy d'ambrosio), until i realized i would be sued by a certain atv parts company with the same name lol

anyways, my last name is to long to fit on it lol

yawn, I do this everyday.................I have 2 water jet machines at work, next.............

I'd do the maltease cross's then put your initals inbetween the cross's ;)

lol, that's to complicated for me to design. Any monkey can make an od/id and put some garbled junk between it.

and with a water jet machine, you can only do 2-dimensional work

well in sorry my school cant afford a 4-axis cnc lathe! you are being an ***! i just whipped these up real quick becuase my teacher wanted an easy design to test out the new machine!

i have made alot of 3 demensional things too like exhuast system parts (endcaps, cores, flanges... everything needed to make an aftermarket exhuast) wheels, i have done a whole crankcase, cylinder, pistons, etc.

back off a little, you do this for a living, i do it only twice a week, and im still just learning!

dude, you're fine. nacsracer gets on my nerves.

09-24-2005, 08:54 PM
what CAD program are you using?

450robot
09-24-2005, 08:57 PM
im just using autodesk inventor now, but were gonna be using whatever software came with the waterjet

i will get the name for the jet next week when i get to class, i never looked

i know a water jet can only do 2d.

and im glad i get on your nerves.

Yeah, sometimes you dont have to use their software and you can import the drawings using a file format that will import. For example, I can do drawings in autoCAD 2005 and save them as a .dxf format. Then import that .dxf into the software that came with the flow machine so I can path it. This works best cause the software that comes with the machine i'm just guessing wont be very user friendly. It's kinda hard to say not knowing what kind of machine you're workin with.

i guess i will find out monday, it might be able to transfer, but im not sure... it would save alot of time i know that much

Warnerade
09-24-2005, 09:07 PM
you should be able to transfer it...isnt .dxf like the universal file type that will work with any cad/cam program?

cool, you could try making a break disc too

That is sick, I have CAD in school and I fell in love with it. I want to do it for a living, do colleges give degrees in CAD? I just started a few weeks ago, and had no idea you could do 3 dimensional images, let alone import those images into waterjets!:eek2:

I would really like a 911 GT2, got a hundred thousand for me? Or maybe I'll just rip it off...Just because it costs alot, does not make it ok to steal it.

This board does NOT support software piracy. I'll give you a chance to clean your post up before I do.

EDIT: Thank you for cleaning it up.

I fell in love with CAD right away. I didn't take the intro class in high school, I just hopped right in the Advanced class and within the first month I was ahead of the class. It was only one other student and I who finished all the required drawings for the year. At the end of October I am taking Tool and Die making at the local college to get into plastic molding for now. Once I have some coin saved up my goal is to buy a CNC and all the goodies and start making custom chopper rims for the local shops around here. VERY fun to get into, but if you were to look at the drawings they use to make molds, your head would spin. At least mine did.

or how about a sprocket designed ring that is inside a circle

Like this, but the design goes all the way around

JDiablo

or just have a inverted saw blade as your ring

I think I want to do house blueprints for a living and CNC work out of my house on the side, maybe a small custom quad and bike parts company to start off with. Any ideawhat colleges have good CAD classes?
