it has been asked a million times, but here we go again

it is a matter of opion. I believe a well built 416 or 426 is better than a 440. with a 416 you will have less heat than a 440, but if you resleeve and do a 426 you will have about the same heat as a 416. if you dont resleeve and do a 426 it will get warm, but not as warm as a 440. I have a 426 11:1, cam, and pipe and it will take a stock yfz, but one with a pipe will eat me up. I am gonna add a ported and polished head, 450r carb and a bigger cam in the near future. I say go with either a 416 or 426. I like 11:1 so i can use pump gas, but you can go 12-13:1 and use race fuel. I would also suggest a JE or Ross piston over Wiseco.

i would probably do the 416. the 426 does not require a resleeving but i wouldn't run a 426 that wasn't. the 416 does not need resleeved and thus it will be cheaper. the 440 does not rev nearly as high. i like the high revs...

i have a 426 that has not been sleeved. i havent had any problems out of it. Are you talking about the new stage two, or the old stage two , now the stage three. The old stage two is a popular choice and seems to work well.

Mine is a 426, White Brothers 1870 grind cam, HMF slip on with moded stock header. i am getting ready to intall the larger WB cam, i believe it is 1478 grind, and a ported head.

You could also bore it to a 426, then stroke it to a 440

JE piston, or Ross. A 426 re-sleeve, good cam, good pipe, port and polish and a decent rider should take the YFZ depending on the rider. You may have the fasted bike in the world but if you cant ride it correctly you will get beat by much lesser bikes.

a 426 is 3mm's larger than stock, NOT .03mm.

this 3mm's is about 0.120" over stock

I don't necessarily buy into the 440's wont rev party line. I think a 426 is probably going to rev a bit quicker, but not that much. I believe that the important part of your build is the components you add to it, full pipe, cam, head work, valves, carb, etc. You are not going to see any real advantage to just tossing a bigger slug in the motor, however, most of the big bore machines are just that. I have both, a 426 and a 440, but have yet to ride them, I just returned from Iraq. I will be able to definately tell ya here at the end of the month!

The pistons should come in 1mm, 2mm, 3mm, ect. not .03, .04. In inches a 426, 88 mm bore, 3mm over stock is .120 over stock.

How much would the 416 kit be to install, I know all shops are different, but give me ideas on what you have paid, or have heard paid for this work to be done?

Thanks.

it is none of those, Pro-X doesnt make the psiton you need. those are inch sizes, you need a .120 over size. Get a JE or ross, But if you cant find one, get a Wiseco. C&D should have what you are looking for in stock. contact them, there should be a banner at teh top of your screen.

the 11:1 for 93 octane. The 13:1 is for straigh race fuel ONLY.

426ex, to mod the stock header grind teh welds on the inside the pipe where it connects to the head.
