New Berlin, NY – This will be a historic weekend as the GNCC Racing heads north to Unadilla, which has been reserved for the motorcycle Outdoor Nationals for years, but everything changed this year with both GNC MX Series and now the GNCC Series getting a chance to ride on the legendary Unadilla natural terrain MX track.

For the amateur bike riders this Sunday will be there first chance to ride on the track that they have watched some of the fastest MX racers conquer for years, so it is expected that many bike enthusiast that normally don’t even consider racing XC will give it a try this weekend just for an opportunity to possibly launch out of “Gravity Cavity’ or Over “Sky Shot.” Other famous obstacles include “The Wall” and “Screw U loop”, but most likely the whole track won’t be part of the GNCC race, so some of these probably won’t be included.

As the racers arrived this morning at the track, they were created with a long line of vehicles waiting at the gate.

The starting of the race will be held right along the highway below were the parking lot is located for the MX Nationals, and fortunately some rain clouds have been moving in this morning with a few showers, but nothing yet to amount to anything.

Hopefully, the area will receive a nice steady shower today just to keep the dust down for tomorrow’s race with partly cloudy skies forecasted tomorrow with temps near 70 degrees, but rain is expected to move back in on Sunday for the bike race.

With the race located in snowmobile country and close to the Canadian border, Bombardier normally puts on an exhibition show for the fans with one of their top snowmobile riders. At the ATV Nationals, Kenny Murphy launched his Bombardier sled out of Gravity Cavity, so who knows yet what they have planned for this weekend especially with their newly formed GNCC Team with Mike Penland and Scott Kilby

Barerly past noon and the tracks perimeter is already beginning to fill up in sections as is looks like there is going to be plenty of riders on hand for this historical weekend regardless of the high gas prices that don’t look to be going down anytime soon with Rita with her sights on Texas and the oil refineries down south.

The Pros are also begining to setup there pits as well with Borich and Ballance arriving early.

Bill Ballance didn’t attend the last round in Yadkinville, NC, so he could concentrate on preparing for his return to racing after breaking his leg at the Yamaha Press Intro in the beginning of August.

Bill would waste no time in his preparation to return to racing, and as soon as he could, he started swimming and even bicycling to help keep him in shape, but he has only ridden his YFZ450 once since the accident, which was last Sunday for 15 minutes.

Bill still has difficulty walking around, but he told me riding a bicycle didn’t bother him at all, and he will mostly likely only have 90% of his mobility he had before the accident, but the doctors explained that it shouldn’t affect his racing.

We wish Bill the best in his return to racing, and it is great to have him back at the track.

Bill Ballance definitely has his share of hardware holding his bone together as you can tell from this Xray, and they would normally leave the plate and screws in place forever, but because of Bill’s involvement in racing, they are going to remove the plate over the winter break.

Bill told me his has $1,200 worth of Hardware(Aftermarket) parts in his leg.

Chris Borich had a Brand New 2006 Honda 450R in his pits with Electric Start, but it looks like he will still be racing his 05 machines for atleast one more race.

Polaris is also on hand this weekend with their new Outlaw Predator

The sun is starting to come out and it is turning into a beautiful day, but unfortuntately we didn’t get the little bit of rain we needed to keep the dust down tomorrow.

I am headed out to walk the track now, but before I do here is a view of the finish line at the top of “The Wall” with the Unadilla MX Track as the back drop.

Admin

The track layout looked awesome from the 4 miles that I walked of the track with a great mix of terrain from the wide open mx sections to some tight woods and some mud and hill climbs. The thing I liked most about the course is that there are passing areas in the woods in sections.

The woods are arrowed, but there are plenty of options of working your way through the trees.

Admin
09-23-2005, 07:12 PM
There are a few mud pits and the mud is really soupy, and I am sure this will be a nasty section during the race, and for fun, the racer production crew put arrows through one really nasty section of swamp, which really had people worried, but it was just a joke for those who walked the track before 3PM.

Admin
09-23-2005, 07:14 PM
The track winds its way through the woods and down along the banks of the Unadilla river

Admin
09-23-2005, 07:17 PM
There is plenty of wildlife in this area because we saw plenty along the trail and even a snake, but if you are allergic to bees you better speed your way through this section of the course and hope there isn’t a bottle neck in front of you because there was a huge swarm of yellow jackets that they tried to burn out, but it didn’t seem to work.

Admin

Wide open highway through the woods

Admin
09-23-2005, 07:21 PM
Both the National and the Amateur MX tracks have been incorporated into the course, but most of the dangerous sections have been bypassed and the MX course will be a high speed drag way with some tabletops and uphill jumps, which add a nice mix with the tight woods.

Admin
09-23-2005, 07:29 PM
"Gravity Cavity" will be included along with the down hill section of "Screw U Loop", which is almost impossible to walk down because it is so steep. The riders will go down “Sky Shot”, but they won’t have a chance to jump down it.

Admin
09-23-2005, 07:33 PM
The starting area is right along the road, which has a short run to a hard left hand turn followed by a quick right and almost immediate left hand turn followed by a 100 yard long straightaway before heading into the woods around the 2.5 mile marker

Admin
09-23-2005, 07:39 PM
With the sun dropping behind the trees a few riders remained lined up at tech inspection in preparation for tomorrows race.

Admin
09-23-2005, 07:44 PM
Once the sun went down, it didn't take long for it to get cold as temps are expected to drop down into the low 40's and upper 30's tonight, so plenty of camp fires were popping up throughout the pits.

Coverage will pick back up tomorrow morning with the help of ATVriders.com members that are offering their time to help cover the race while I try to capture all the racing action for the Complete Coverage.

The racers have now headed to the riders meeting and then to the starting line for the opening ceremonies. It's about a 9 mile course with plenty of passing oppurtunities. They are also advising that at about the 3 1/2 mile marker there is a bees nest and anyone who is allergic to bee stings should take their medicine with them.

Jenks got burried in the mud when he dropped down in the mud and tried to pass lap riders.

Yokleys transmission was stuck in one gear

Borich actually broke spindle where tie rod attaches

Smiley got stuck on a hill and almost flipped but got hit in the back and to the shoulder by a rider from the pro am class I believe. Smiley will be racing in 2 weeks.

Other class updates will be coming soon.

The cell phone at the track went dead.:(

Brent trashed his tranny on the first lap, with no second or third gear. I would say that he did good to finish where he did concidering. By the way, congrats to Brent for locking down his championship in N.Y. All he needed was a 7th or better to lock it down with 2 races to go. Yoho seems to be a good rider, but to lock down a championship this early, Brent has clearly earned it with better and faster riding.

Your right brents more consitent and a very good rider but yoho is faster hands down. Look at the results yoho won several contest when he actualy finished and the ones brent won was because kevin got flats but was usually in first at one point in time. Not knocking just saying watch out for Kevin he is only 16 and is smoking fast. With a new quad he will be your 4stroke b winner next year.

Um not! I saw him last summer at the W.V. GNCC which would have made him 15, violating the rules.

Let it go popo the kids 16. Several Pros did the same thing before. Im not gonna argue on this thread I never said anything negative about Brent he is super fast I said that. I just think Kevin has a little more speed He can run with Sommers and them guys at locals.

Keeping the quad together is part of being a good rider. Just save it for the track. If Keven is better he would be the C class champ.

I agree and i disagree, I have had some really really weird things happen to me while racing GNCCs. Other riders on the course can also cause damage to your machine or race also!

IM just gona agree, that Both boys are fast, I rember hearing about Yoho before he ever raced a GNCC, and some of you guys where really bragging on him. We all have our own OPINIONS and none of them really matter to others.

Im going with brent, because I 1/2way know him, and iv sceen him ride, and he earned his tittle for this year. Yoho can race for that same tittle in the 06 season, OR he can go for a top position in a B-class, Or if he has fast enuf to run with Brandon, and Tyler then he could run an A-class as well!

I actully expect to see both of these two boys pulling off some awsome overalls in the next couple of years!

Ill see u-all at Crawfordsville!

I don't know Brent but he must be doing something right. Championships are not won on speed alone. I can tell you this that Kevin is crazy fast in the tight woods.

Man, I cant wait to see this championship battle next year. I have never actually watched Kevin ride, but it is obvious from some of his results that he is a talented rider. And in my book if Brandon believes him to be fast, then he must be. I can assure you that I am looking forward to taking notice of his riding in the next two rounds, and wish him luck. On another note, I think the secret to Brents success has to be that GT Thunder reworked rear shock and GT Thunder rear linkage. :D No matter what, it will be alot of fun watching those two (fast) boys go at it next year.

I agree it will be fun watching them go at it both nice guys and really fast. Just wish Kevin would of hit more so he could of had more throw aways. Kevin will be moving to B next year last I talked to him. Once you meet Kevins Granpa you will root for him even more. It will be fun and both these guys will be pros in a few years.
