they are good for long rides or good if you have a high comp piston and wanna go out for a ride longer than 3 hrs. they are very easy to put on. ill post some pics up tonight of mine with the tank.

The IMS and the Clarke are both good tanks

yes you leave your side panals on with the ims tank. with the clarke you have the side panals integrated into the gas tank. i have no idea how far you can go. i can go about 6hrs on constant riding. before i was only able to go 3hrs. with a stock 400ex you could prob do around 12-15 hrs on the one tank. here are some pics of all different angles so you can get a feeling of how it will look.

Both tanks are very good. If you have aftermarket plastic you must use the IMS tank. the Clark tank will only work with the stock front plastic. with the side panels removed. When I was in Colorado, I checked my mpg. I was getting around 25mpg riding in the moutains. I was able to ride all day and not get gas. During 2 XC races I checked I got 12-15 mpg. Big difference on the 400. During the race I didn't have to stock for gas during a 2 hr race with the IMS tank.

i think i would go with the ims just because i see everybody with them, another thing with the ims hows the turning ability with the stock stem is it good or should i go with extended length.

the turning is fine. i have the stock stem and renthal cr-low bends and they are just perfect for me. im sure if you are a taller guy, it wouldnt hurt to get a +1 stem, but its not needed.

finally, someone that doesnt give me crap about it. alot of my friends said its fugly and stuff, but once they sat on it they stopped talking. hi-filte seats (http://www.hi-flite.com/atv.html) is where you can get them. i might be selling mine soon. doing arial tricks it tough since you have to life your foot over the seat. i mean its a couch but makes it hard to do tricks.

I have 5.5 gallon clake tank and the installation took about two hours. The tanks casting is a little rough where your fenders fit in. The tank bulges the fenders out a little bit but other than that this tank is awesome. We went riding for 5 hours on saturday and didnt even hit a half tank. If you dont mind the rough casting in areas this tank is great. Did i mention jet changes are much faster four bolts and its off. They had these funky o rings to hold down the back but you dont need them its rigid enough.

one more thing on the top of the gas tank u take that extra top plastic off right.

Yes you do, but the casting looks good so you dont need it. the clarke tank on the top looks sick.

I have a clarke 5.5 gal tank it looks better than the ims (my opinion) because u dont have that huge ball of tank right in front of your face. and i get better distance on it but since i have a 440 all decked it sucks a bit more fuel than normal. this pic is old but it has the tank on it, ive done some work since then

I am a clarke owner. One bonus about clarke tank that no one mentions is that you do not have to fill it up all the way but the weight is kept lower on the bike to help the cornering ablity. Always better to keep the weight lower on the bike. My 2 cents.

I bought a IMS and thought the fit sucked and when turning the bars it hit the ball buster bulge on the top. Took it off before I ever even rode the quad and bought a Clarke. I'm much happier with the looks and fit of the clarke..

Call IMS to make sure, my IMS had a different gas cap than the stocker. They both leaked when turned upside down but the stocker would leak even on a wheelie.

jak1389

ims using their own gas cap. it has different threading then the stockers. your tank will come with a gas cap.
