Well it sure smells like kerosene and Kerosene is a very safe (as in not harming what your woking on) adhesive remover. You can use it to remove tape and stickers from plastic windows (like on a jeep). It sounds good to me.

Kerosene is one of many derivatives of petroleum. I'd bet the specific derivative they use is a trade secret.

Only two essentials for any tool kit. WD40 & Duct tape.
* If it sticks and should move - oil it!
* If it moves and should stick - tape it!
C all problems solved.

Ok, here's the real-deal scoop on WD-40 and your o-ring (or x-ring) chain.

The o-rings (or x-rings) require lubricant, like a standard chain-oil. In fact, the rings are there to trap lubricant at the chain pivout points between each link, and to seal out dirt from getting in there and causing wear.

WD-40 is NOT a lubricant. For many substances, it is actually a solvent. The WD-40 itself is not bad for your chain, but it dissolves and washes away the lubricant. THIS is the part that makes it bad for your chain, because it removes all the lubricant between the links.

And you can't just spray new chain oil on after you use WD-40, because the WD-40 will just break down and dissolve the chain oil again.

If you use WD-40 on your chain, you have to let it dry completely before you add chain oil. And this may take a while, because some of it will get trapped under the 0-rings and it may take a long time to dry.

Not sure where you got that from:confused:

According to their site WD-40 does not contain water.

people i know use it to clean their plastic on their 4 wheelers.
CRC is better than wd40 and pb blaster does wonders on rusted bolts where wd40 is good for keeping stuff from rusting pb blaster eats rust after its been rusted.

WD 40 will not drive out the lubricant on an o-ring chain. In fact, it helps to keep the o-rings from drying out.

Check out bobistheoilguy.com and search the forum section for the motorcycle lube threads. There is one on lubing o-ring chain. Interesting reading there on oil and lubes in general.

Here's a link on WD40...

you guys forgot about zip ties (wire ties for non rednecks) those, duct tape, PB Blaster and wd-40 and you are set. wd-40 is also great for cutting grease, i don't know if we have mentioned that. big fan of the WD 40

Naptha is the preferred grease and adhesive remover. Buy a yellow bottle of Ronsonol lighter fluid. Tape adhesive, grease, tar, any petroleum based product can be removed with Naptha. It will not stain clothing or leather (tried that one myself on my jacket). Once the duct tape has been removed, Naptha will get rid of that ugly glue mark. It does however stink to high heaven and dry out your skin.

True, but put some lighter fluid on the dash of your car and rub on it and see what happens. Lighter fluid is better in a place that you will not be able to remove oil residue from (fabric, some leather) but it is not as safe on certain types of paint like vinal paint on the dash of your car or leather seats in a car (which are painted).

I would have to say though, it works much better/faster where it can be used and I would use it pretty much anywhere on my quads.

I also would not use wd-40 on a questionable surface as a adhesive remover. I would buy pure kerosene. But once again I would not be afraid to use wd-40 anywhere on my quads.

Alcohol works pretty good too;) even if it doesn't work you won't care.

I have to agree with wilkin250r.
From past experiences i've found that it might work great right away, but after a while the WD-40 will just break down and possibly break down what ever you are applying it to.

The best way to use wd-40 is to not use it as a lubricant.
As a solvent it is great. spray down electrical boxes to keepout water, great! But PLEASE for your quad and whatever else you have that has moving parts use a lubricant that is meant to handle the heat, pressure, and other conditions you may encounter. WD-40 may work for quick fix, but down the road you'll wish you had used a better lube.
