I'm puttin new clutches in my 400ex and I heard I am suppose to soak them in oil first. Since i run synthetic oil should i soak them in synthetic or can i use regular automotive oil. Also would it be alright if i soaked them in the oil i drain out, i change it only a few weeks ago and its still in pretty good shape.
Thanks

i do not think it really matters. i would make sure the oil isn't too dirty though. no need for putting dirt back into the engine.

If you are going to be changing out the clutch disks I would assume that you are going to be changing the oil also. Just take a zip lock baggie and put the disks in the bag, pour some oil in the bag to let the disks soak for a while and then just pull the disks out, and pour the oil from the bag into the motor when all done. Use whatever oil you use in the trans to soak the disks. The whole idea is to let the disks get fully wet before putting them in the bike and fireing it up for the first time.

Lube 'em and toss 'em in! Don't waste a day soaking them.

Most clutch kits say to let them soak for 5 minutes or so. Soaking them longer is no benefit to the clutch discs.
