416, mainly because if you blow up the 416 you have more boring room, if you blow up the 416 you go to a 426, and if you blow the 426 youre screwed over to a new sleeve and a 440 kit. Go 406 for reliability. Oh yea get a lil extra money and a get a XR cam while the top end is down

You wont be able to find anything for cheaper than that!! Go ahead and do the 416!

Go to the 425 from the start. the 425 is .120 over bore pretty much the biggest you can go on the stock sleave. Piston prices are about 130$ so if you go to a 416 first then you buy 1 130$ piston for your 416 well if u blow that up like some say you can go to a 425, thats another 130$ piston well if u blow that up you can do a resleave and get a 440 but at that point you need to resleave it so the 130$ on the 416 piston could be used to get the blown up 425 resleaved and new piston and you will be ahead since it really dosent cost that much. Blowing up the motor really dosent matter what bore your at i think the motors are strong enough to take the same abuse after a bore as it does stock. My 425 runs like **** and ive been real happy it has the low end and the mid pull and revs, i think its a good balance in the 400 a good carb would be the cherry on top for sure.
