I am working on my 400 ex clutch and hoped that someone might know a couple of items of information. what if any special tools are needed to do the job? what the torque specs are for the clutch? how hard to replace?

If you are just replacing the plates you will not need any special tools. When you take off the 5 bolts that hold the cover on the basket, loosen them just a little, an work your way around like you would on a car wheel. The same goes when you put them back on. Don't over tighten them when you put them back on. Remember that they are going into soft metal. The springs will keep them tight.
If you are taking the clutch basket off you will need a special tool to get the nut back on the center of the basket. Use an air impack to get the nut off with.
Hope that this helps.
If you turn(tilt) the quad on its side you don't have to drain the oil and it makes it easier to work on.
