Ok here's the problem.Im racing and it started to cut out and it would just die after a minute or two it would fire back up and run then it would do the same thing.Took it to the dearler and they couldn't find anything wrong with it.I raced it again two weeks later no problems .I went trail riding this past weekend and it happened again,I ran it with the lights on like you post to.I don't know what to do please help. Its an 04

I would guess loose wires or stator going bad. When my stator went out, it was kind of intermittent at first, then it ran bad (like it was too rich) all the time. I put a new stator in, now it runs great.

I think I'm starting to have the same problem... My headlights no longer work (the brake light still comes on) and it just started running like crap at higher rpm's over the weekend. Is it the recitifier regulator ?

it's the 5TG-81410-00-00 STATOR ASSY. about $112. But I replaced 5TG-81960-00-00 RECTIFIER & REGULATOR ASSY about $66, also, just to be safe. I tested both parts per the service manual, and they were just barely in "spec". Nothing else that I tried, made it better, so I replaced both units. Problem fixed.

The stator is easy to replace. it's bolted to the left side cover. Just take your left cover off, (there are 2 screws behind the starter gear), unbolt the old stator assy, and bolt the new one in, and plug in the wires.

The rectifier is the metal box with fins, bolted to your frame under the nose piece.

good luck.:D :D :D

last month my 05 did the same thing turned out to be the stator, I let it go too long and it ended up burning up my bulbs in all my lights.

before you spend the money on a new stater , I have had 2 yfz's that the cdi box connection got corroded , they did the exact same thing . i cleaned the connection and filled it with greese and had no more problems ..
