My understanding is the dealerships assemble the new quads they recieve and sell. My question is how much of the quad do they actually put together? Do all dealerships do this?

the quads usualy come in crates wit no front tires, defalted rears and the handlebars bent down.

This is why you get charged a 300$ assembly fee some times...

i work at a dealer, and some machines do actually take quite a bit of time, others are uncrate, put gas in and go. yamaha sport machines take a while to do, polaris utes are the easiest.

tell them you want the quad unnassembled. most hondas Iv'e seen have no fuel (usually given to me empty whenI buy new anyways, i dont want to use their garbage gas anyway), put some air in the tires, and adjust the handlebars

one of my buddies bought his honda unassembled and saved a fair amount, all he did was throw on some tires if i remember right

I think most dealers will not sell them unaseembled. Plus, you could kiss goodbye whatever limited warantee they give you.

It looks like $300 worth of work to get the darn thing out of the crate.

Uh OH is Joe thinkin on a NEW quad

We bought our Kasea mini from Oregon & had them ship it up here & Ron picked itup @ Kasea headquarters, we assembled it ourselves, it does void the warranty BUT are they any good anyway?? I told them that was fine cuz we would be going aftermarket anyway!! We had to get it out of the crate, put tires on,assemble brake lines(front), filled battery threw that in, tightened some screws/bolts & thats about it, we said we'd do it again to save on that set up fee!!

Here in the Seattle area there is a outside vendor that assembles quads, m/c, snowmobiles, and riding lawnmowers for local stores. Once assembled they load them all on a truck and deliver them to the dealers.

im trying to find pics of my 450r when they opened it up. all it needed was fuel and putting the rear skid on.

Most dealers won't sell them without assembly. It's usually the guys that don't finance and don't haggle on prices that will. The same guy is usually the cheapest in that area or ships a lot of quads out to other areas. You pay him his asking price and take your bike home still in a crate. If possible I would get it in the crate, it just doesn't make sense to pay someone that I wouldn't normally let work on my quad anyway to put my bike together so I can take it home and pull it apart.

i will buy all of mine in a crate... the 1st thing i do when i get a new bike or quad is totaly rip it down and grease everything... they barly grease stuff from the factory and u'd be amazed how many loose bolts u'll find!

None of my local dealerships will even sell a quad unassembled still in the crate. They all told me it's because of liability issues. If they sell an unassembled to some idiot who forgot to put the lugnuts on the front hubs or forgot to put the nut on the shock bolts and he gets in a wreck they could potentially be held liable. It's truly a shame to those people who are capable enough and responsible enough to assemble it themselves but I can't say I blame my dealers in this litigious society.

I asked about buying my YFZ still in the crate, the dealership told me it would be $8500 because they'd have to charge me for each individual part and not as an entire quad.

Sorry to disappoint evryone but i'm not getting a new quad anytime soon:( Not that I don't want one, too many other major financial expenses coming in the near future. I need another daily driver, build a garage and add on to the house. Probably more than $50K in the next couple of years:ermm: Unless someone wants to help out :p

I was asking because of a question another member had in a different section and out of curiosity.

you pay for pdi (pre deliver inspection). the set up tech have a pdi checklist from the manufactier you have to file with yamaha ,polaris, kawi ,,whatever. that you have to file for warrenty, and most yamaha sport atv's you have to torqe all the bolts, put all controls on, skidplates, healplates tires, shocks and go though all fluids, and theres little peices you have to put on. and we have to "hi alt" were we live for warrenty, which is jetting. and clutching on polaris's they give you about 2.25 hours depending on the model, and how many carbs ext. alot goes into it all,, belive me it's ALL i do

450R's need gas, skid plate, oil checked, tire presure, oil air filter.
400ex-same as the 450 without the skid plate, + the battery.
300ex comes without the wheels, shocks, and some other stuff.

Not even a Ferrari technician makes $60 an hour. The labor rate posted at the shop is what the shop gets paid, not what the mechanic makes. Up here a good m/c tech makes $50k a year.

a C+ yamaha tech makes $11.25 flat rate and if you get to a, A++ tech level it's $22.86 or suming like that
