Im a bluetraxxer...

Althought I do not ride blue, Ive been faithfull to BT forever, but Its time I get some help from the honda lovers. I have a full race cannondale, and I race cmrc central ontario series.

I love the machine, crazy fast and great suspension, but its just too much $$$ for me.

Need a 400ex... My buddy's got a 2002 he said he'd give it to me for 3500 cdn, witch is a good price, all it has is a white bros rev box and cseries rims in the front.

Im thinking throwing my cannondale tripple rate elka\ohlins on the front (valved for stock cannodna a-arms, almost the same as ex). And I got some klaws on 190's that would go in the back.

What I was wondering is how much power can I get from this thing with a 416 or 440?

thanks

its no crime to switch brands for whatever reasons.

a well built 416 can hang with just about anything out there.

in canada, i could not help you.

in the states, there are plenty. i have to recommend our main sponsor C&D Racing, they have been doing an awesome jon building engines, and if money isnt an issue, DASA is also on this site and can give you the power you seek. GT Thunder is another that builds some good stuff and im pretty sure all three of these work with shipping to and from canada.

price is up to you. how fast you want to go and how much power your after will be dictated to your bank account and your willingness to spend it!

I agree with pappy..any of those places do great work.

If money is an issue then buy a stage two cam and the big bore kit and do the work yourself. If you follow all the torgue specks in the honda service manual then you will be fine. The 400ex is a very easy motor to work on...however you must use a torgue wrench...In the states you can do everything for under $400.00 if you do all the work yourself (except boring). Take your time and have fun.

good luck

Get a 406cc and raise your compression. Almost all of your power from a bore only job comes from the raise in compression not the cc's.

No, remember the old saying, "there is no replacement for displacement. it that was true we would all have 250's with 13:1 compression. the more air and fuel you compress with a larger bore teh more power you will have.

I say go with a 416. no resleeveing, and still gives you great power. plus you can go to a 426 without a resleeve when the 416 wears out. But a well built 416 can hang with the best of them. Get a JE or ross piston, a good cam, port and polish, and a full exhaust.

My 406cc can hang with just about anything, 10cc's make almost no difference, and remember power to weight ratio. Are you really getting that much more power out of 10cc's to make up the difference in it's weight?

I could probably do the work myself, if not my local shop can take over for me. What is everything I need, and How reliable are these kits. I know it probably wont be as fast as my cannondale, but im not too worried about it.

Thanks for the info guys.

a 406 and 416 are the most reliable, Ive heard 3+ years on one. and if you do porting, carb, exhaust, airbox, vavles you'll have alteast as fast if not faster than your cannondale

how much more power are you getting out of your extra 9cc's? when you add it up, you do get more out of more dicplacement. I believe that a 406, 416, 426, or even a 440 can be reliable. My 426 has been together for 1.5 years without any problems other than a few headgaskets. I think that the 440 is the most unreliable due the the heat created. if you releeve and go with a 426 you will have a lot less heat. of you can use the stock sleeve and do a 426 but the heat will be greater.

416s a great motor it seems to be a popular chose, but if you have the money go for a full out built 440 with all the good stuff, i would say have sparks, GT thunder, or hetricks do it. you d be lookin at around $1000-$1200 AM to get a nice motor built
