View Full Version : Suggestions for 300EX - suspension

The stock suspension is horrible for jumps. I'm looking at Elka and Works and I want adjustable preload, compression and rebound. I'm leaning towards Elka for less than $100 more and an extra inch plus in travel.

Elka claims that you should not put a 400 shock on because the geometry is different.

Anyone have experience or suggestions on the best and cheapest way to do this?

Is the 01 raptor shock the only year that fits?

Yes. '01 was the only year with a remote reservoir.

Go for the elkas. I have the economy's and they are great. You can run 400ex length elkas using a shockmount bracket and 300ex a arms(stock or aftermarket). The shocks do have to be specially built for the setup though. I ordered mine from Jeff@Quadshop and they work perfectly.

Running the relocator kit isnt really the best option. The shocks tend to heat up and fade faster because of the angle they are at.

Your best bet would be to get GDH +3 LT 300EX a-arms. They are 300ex geometry and allow you to use 16 1/4" shocks with stock top shock mounts. Plus they are a great price

I wasn't aware that the upright position would cause any heat/fading problems. My shocks were specially built to work with my setup so I wouldn't think it would be a problem. I could be wrong though. I do agree that the GDH LT setup would be better but it wasn't an option when I built mine.

Jeff-would you have any input on the shock positioning causing heat/fade issues?

We haven't seen any more fading than we do on any other shock in stock location.

all other years have piggyback and the 01 is the only year with remote...there isnt enough space for the piggyback to fit in the tight space

I know the 01 is the only year that fits and I have this mod done. I was just wondering if you tolck your airbox out or cut it if you could get other years to fit or dose the rese hit the frame? Just an idea but I havn't looked into it.

Well, if you're looking for some arms, I have my new Burgard +4 LT setup up for sale. They use a 16 1/2 inch shock. Jeff could definitely help you out with the shocks. He's the one who got me hooked up with the shocks and arms. And to be honest, it works really well. They offer great handling. If you're interested, I'm selling them for about $650. They're not even 2 months old yet, and in really good condition.
