speed control

how dose a speed control on a r/c car hook up i no there is 2 wires to the motor, 2 wires to the battery, and one wire to the 2nd in port on the reciver. But what i dont understand is how the reciver is powered.

the reciever on an electric rc are powered by that little cable that your plugged in to it from the esc (speed control)
