Well in my opinion they are. Down here at Budds Creek theres a guy that raced A class on a 440 (a true built 440) he got the holeshot and kept on gettin it. He came in 2nd on the first moto and 1st in the second. I think they definitly are still comptetive. Its mostly the rider though.

The elkas that are in that pic wont come with it. I was just borrowing them from a friend just to see if it would be better.

Dupontster it hurts to see that thing up for sale ive seen it around n its one of the nicest 400s ive ever seen

Alot of it is the rider. Even if I swapped my 400EX for Colby's (C&D Racing) radically built 450R he would still walk away from me.

Thanks Honda Maniac 01. I hate to see it go to, alot of good times I had on it. I was thinking of redoing the a-arms and shocks and putting a crf 450 motor in it. But I decided to sell it and start on something new.

my 440 creeps away from a piped 450r (slip-on) but they have more top speed, i put a 16T up front and i can usally hold him off but its hittin the rev limiter, in my opinion they are still competetive but it takes ALOT of money to get them to keep up with the big boys, its just easier to buy a nice R or YFZ

I went to Budds Creek for the GNC race this year. I don't think I saw more than 3-4 400ex(s). By next year, I doubt you will see any. You will dump as much money into a 400ex trying to be competitive with a showroom 2006 450r.

About the only way to make it happen is to find one from another racer who wants to move up and buy his/hers for song and dance.

My 2 cents...

Yeah, but you can have a totally tricked out 400ex for the price of that stock showroom 06'.

I believe I said it first. Yes, you can buy a tricked out 400ex from another racer for a song and dance that will be competitive with a showroom 2006. You can't buy a decent used 400ex and build it up for the price of a new 450r.

Equal riders and you definitely won't be competitive if the 450r starts modifying cam, exhaust, etc.

If all the other riders in your class suck then you can be competitive on just about anything.

Some of the posts are pretty funny. Yea, you can be competitive on a 400ex then go on to say buy mine so I can get a new 450r to race. Pretty funny.
