I have ruffly 400 pictures. Pappy you can save alot of pictures on a CD. Most CD's can hold up to 700mb when pictures are about 100kb's each. And, thats when the picture is about 500x500. 1 megabyte is equal to 1024 kilobytes. So, im guessing you could probably get around 300 on one CD. Hope that helps;)

you need to invest in a dual layer DVD burner. You'll have over 8gig's of storage on 1 disc.

Or you can invest in an external USB hard drive. I just picked one up for under $200 - it holds 160gigs.

I got a Seagate 160gig. Its USB 2.0 so the transfer rate is pretty damn good. I bought it from Best Buy a couple months ago. They had 2 mail in rebates totaling $80...so I got it for a tad over $100.

I'm currently using it for work. A couple guys I work with showed intrest in getting more (its been major time saver for us)...I did some research for them and found some external hard drive kits that will take any standard IDE hard drive and make it USB 2.0 (with the drive bay) for around $30-40. Then you would just have to buy a hard drive - any size you need. I'm thinking about trying this for the next drives we buy. You can get a 200-300gig for pretty cheap now a days. This might be the best bang for your buck dealing with external storage.

If anyone goes this route, I would suggest a dual layer and double your storage. The media is more expensive, but sometimes its nice to have 8+ gigs available on one disc...and you always have the option of using the single layer DVD's as well.

just make sure you buy a dual layer dvd burner. also if anyone is thinking about buying one ill show you the one i went with a week ago at a great price with great reviews.

and yes the usb adapters work pretty good i hear. I have a usb adaper for my internal cd burners and cd-drives and its pretty basic.

I dont think anyone is gonna be needing a 300 gb hardrive for their family pictures though.

There is another option and it is buying webhosting. you will would be able to access your files from anywhere and if ur computer crashes they are not affected.
