i would have to say a c-dale chassis with a xr650r motor would be my dream quad

an lsr outlaw shee set up for xc would also be nice. i really looked into this one, but i cant find the outlaw shee/250r frame on the lsr site anymore:(

I remember sitting on that bike in the Quadshop. Seeing it up close, that made it my dream quad. It felt good to me but every body has their own opinion.

it wasnt the feel or look, it was the bad fitment of parts to the LRD chassis. how it ever worked is beyond belief. i got lucky and was able to part it for what i had in it.

Yeah I rember Jeff and John telling me how nothing wanted to bolt up right. How did it feel riding it? That swingarm was cool looking.

it felt fine but it was far from my standards for my personal quad. the engine ripped, the shocks felt great but seeing things zip tied because the mounting areas did not line up kind of scared me...just a wee bit:p

im dead serious. i purchased the quad for $8000 sight unseen. i knew for the price, i could recoup my cash if it wasnt what it should be, and i was correct:p i dont really blame ballance, i mainly blame lrd for the crappy frame.

Jake250ex
09-17-2005, 09:59 PM
wow that goes against everything I've ever heard about em... than again they were all lrd riders talking about it. Plus, nothing beats learning it the hard way.

That sucks though. Why not just spend a little time fixing the shortcomings? I know EXACTLY how you feel though, I have had quads everyone else talked up but if you feel funny on a quad you'll never have much fun on it. But still - I don't know if I could give up Ballances quad. Did you ever talk to Bill about it?

Pappy
09-17-2005, 10:18 PM
no, it was my fault for buying the quad thru a 3rd party with me living so far from them. i could blame the folks i bought it thru or ballance, but ultimatley its my fault. i have learned my lesson and wont be buying anymore quads thru anyone...lol

my dream quad is my yfz, its perfect for me, exactly what i want, there are quads with better performing parts for a top A rider or pro but im neither, its just a quality built quad that suits me perfect

actually the quadshop installed the new plastic for me before i picked it up to save shipping and room in the truck when we hooked up at the gncc banquet. they had no choice but use zip ties because the fender mounts did not come close to lining up on the frame...lol

others have since expressed thier dismay with the early lrd frames, but the information wasnt out then and it seemed only a few knew about the problems.

and does everyone really thing a XR600/650 would make a good quad engine? i see that suggested alot but never really condsidered it as a transplant:confused:

a stock xr650r would not be a good choice for a xc racer, the motor overheats fairly easy as its made for desert racing high speeds where it gets plenty of air flow. scott summers racers a xr650, but ithink they do a few mods to the cooling system first. if honda made my dream quad, they would fix that problem and add an electric starter with the kicker

an xr600 would be sweet, probably aot less work than a 650 since its air cooled

'til you ride one, I bought mine and at first was almost regretting it, they're pretty lame in stock form. You gotta spend some money on the 04&05's. If its staying stock get a YFZ. Maybe the 06 R will be worth the hype.
