alright, one of my buddies thinks that he can get a 250r with minor motor work, 39mm carb and some exhaust to go 110... i told him he was stupid for thinking that, i told him maybe 85-90 if he was lucky. cuz i know of one of my buddies that has a 330r that will go 88 and thats more then minor motor work to me.

what do u think? i told him that unless u get over at least a 330 bore then ur not gonna get more then 90. and this is without gearing

whenever anyone says they have a quad that will go over 100, i first ask if their canadian figuring they could be talking kph. if theyre talking MPH i instantly lable them as retarded, and regard everythgin else they may say as BS

on pavement with the right gearing a stock 250R would go 100, on a long enuf stretch.

my WORKED 310 will do 100. (clocked at 107 actually, on a dirt road, dunno how long it took, half mile or so i would guess.)

a 330 should hav no trouble doing 100 unless its geared way down, or cant pull 6th.

this is of course assuming pavement or hard packed dirt. i might b able to touch 70 in the sand...

On this same subject a buddy and me were on our way home from a day or riding out in the dunes. I had my TRX and his Banshee on the trailer parked outside a restaurant. The waiter comes up to us and asks if that is our quads out there then says he has a Banshee too. So he asks what my buddy has done to his and he gives him the list (420 LongRod Stage 4 Trinity everything, runs pretty strong). The waiter askes how fast it is and my buddy responds, "well it probably does about 70mph or so in the sand." The waiter responds, "Man that's slow I only have exhaust on mine and it does way over 100MPH" We give eachother that "YA RIGHT" look and he walks off. Few minutes later it's still bugging my buddy and he says, "Next time someone asks me how fast my quad is I'm just gonna say it does 135MPH" I think I'm gonna have to use that line next time too.

with stock gearing or close to stock gearing, there is no way he would hit 110.... i have never clocked mine out, but i know it feels like you are going faster than you are- 110 is pretty dang fast... yah, i'm sure with the right gearing and long enough straight away you could, but it wouldnt be real rideable gearing... i call bs

I have found that it's actually more difficult to get the larger bores up to higher speeds. The big-bores like 330cc and up have huge torque numbers, but they don't rev out all that high.

Gearing is important, yes. But it seems like the key to high speeds is high revs. If I wanted something for sheer top speed, I would probably keep it below 310, and port it to rev to the moon. I know guys that get over 90mph on 270cc, and could probably go higher if they wanted to gear that way.

The guy i bought my R from said he clocked it at 92 in 5th gear. it has some motor work but not much{mods below}. the gearing has changed a little. dont know off the top of my head. but a stock 250 with some jetting and porting and gear change and also piped should hit 90+ maybe 100 if you light and have a long long straigt away.

goto the thread" what size sprocket "and ground zero posted a 250r calcalator that you put in the tire size and gears and it will spit out the mph for each gear, look at that, sit back, and say man I'm stupid for saying my 250r goes over a 100mph

I call BS!!!. I want to see a vidio of that run. My 370R is no all out drag rig but it goes pretty good. I use it for everything including reguler trail riding. I ran it down an 1/8 mile dragstrip this summer and it ran 8.5 sec at 77mph and the only quad that was faster that day had a Ninja 600 motor in it and he was running 8.3sec. A friend of mine built a 3 wheeler with a Polaris 800 sled motor dynoed around 180h.p. and he was running 6.8sec at 97mph. I don't believe there is anyway in hell to make a 250r based motor go that fast, you would have to be making 200h.p.+
the bottom end would grenade.

Methy! Whats up brother! I remember you from Saltsdale! Please tell these nonbelievers that the alchohol 380 can get down the track!!! The sad part is that Ive had other R's outrun me!!!!!
Its all about the setup boys. Air shifter, drag frame, etc; But I knew I shouldnt have said anything! Methy, we wont even tell them about our 300 Ft sand drag times!

Its not hard to get quads in the 6 second range in you set them up correctly! Our team has a 375cc Banshee on spray doing 6.3 @ 108 mph. Override trans w/ airshifter, drag fram, wheelie bars, the whole nine yards! And your friend w/ the 180 HP motor didnt have it set up properly obviously or he would have done ALOT better! Just throwing my post in there! Dont have to believe.
But i appreciate your honesty!
thanx

I think my R can probably do 100 mph but I am not 100% sure. Like someone said before that it will take a long stretch to get it up to that speed. 5th gear = 85.02 so maybe 6th = 1??. I don't know.

Your right! I have no idea!
Anyone close to the Lakeland drag strip PM me and we will go out one evening. Ill warm the Polonda Motor up and see if we cant get that slow thing up to 100mph! Thats if Im not making it up?!!

I appreciate all of you views and opinions.
thanx
