View Full Version : Smaller gears? Same ratio!

On a 450R for XC what do you guys run for gearing? And can you run smaller gears but close to the same ratio to add less weight to the drive train and get more clearance for the skid plate incase you crush it?

you'll never notice the less weight, but yes. 1 tooth in the front is 2.5-3 in the rear. i would assume a 450r has a 15 tooth front sprokett? if so, go down to a 13 and go down 5 or 6 teeth on the back. should get you close to stock gearing with a little more clearance

i run a 13/36 gearing for XC. It is a tad bit shorter than stock.
