yea he probably did mean 45. i dont think it would do 55 with just a filter, at least my freinds recon doesnt and they're basicaly the same quad.

if it did go 55mph, for 1 that'd be crazy
2 the gearing on the 2 machine's are probably a little differant
and the 250ex might not get off the line as quick.

could be bigger tires other than that you can't change the gearing on a 250ex and anyways if its stock gearing motor mods will only help for it to get to the top speed quicker with the same gearing unless you change the rev limiter but then you risk blowing your motor up.

they go faster
i have a 2002 250ex with spark arrestor removed. my friend has a rancher 350 that has the speedometer and it tops out at 53 and my 250ex blows by it and my friend has a recon and i dragged him and smoked him because they are geard different and stuff

not sure if that last post was for me or not, but when i said that the gearing was differant. i meant the gear's inside the tranny. not the srokett's.

An air-cooled, two-valve, 229cc four-stroke is behind the Sportrax's muscle. Though it's almost identical to the Recon powerplant-with the same bore and stroke-this mill produces 10% more power, according to Honda. How did Honda do it? Raising the compression ratio is a simple way to gain more power, and that's one of the updates the company has made. Inside the all-new cylinder head, valve timing has been revised, and the valves are now canted 55 degrees, rather than parallel to each other. To further improve airflow, the intake tract has been straightened out.
To take advantage of the additional power, the gear ratios are now wider. First and second remain the same as on the Recon, but the remaining three gears are higher. Because Honda typically overengineers its products and the Recon motor has a strong five-year track record, we seriously doubt that the mods will hurt reliability. The rev limit is set at a healthy but not extreme 8750 rpm. The Sportrax's slightly larger fuel tank (compared to the Recon) suggests that Honda anticipates riders will be revving this baby more than the Recon! An external oil cooler (not found on the Recon or even Honda's Sportrax 300EX) is designed to keep the powerplant cool and producing consistent power.

The 300ex is quicker. Its not made for top speed. And those speedometers on those utility quads are all off. I raced a 350 rancher too and his speedo topped out at 50 and I flew passed him stock. Since Ive piped and jetted my 250 ive gained a couple mph's top end. I pass my buddie on his 250ex easily. But I am now just barely above 50. I doubt i do 55. But my friends chevy truck speedo said I was going over 50. The only way to know for sure is to clock ya. I dont car about top end anyways. I want a quad that gets me there in a hurry. But til then I bought some 20 inch tires. They should help lower the gearing a little. I just got to get them mounted.

bump........ plus one thing how in the world can a 500 and something pound utility outrun a light super light machine when a recon can outrun big utlities....... later

that light machine isnt built for speed, its a rec bike, its a 229cc, 4 stroke, pushrod, 2 valve motor, most 500 nowadays are 599cc, cam, and 4 valves, more advanced
