i have found a full HMF system for my 400ex cheap, but the guy said the header is connected to the head with springs instead of bolting down a flange. Is this how HMF's are now or is this just a old version? anyone know what the head pipes are made of on these older spring type systems and if the end caps are removable? thanks

the complete system does use springs.

there are 2 individual little flanges that mount to the head, one in each exhaust port. then the header slides over these pieces and springs hold it in place. you will get a little leak from where the header slides over these pieces but don't worry about it. my buddy had fantastic power gains with his full system over his slip on setup.

i just got a brand new full system hmf for a 400ex, no springs are used on this setup, at least on the newer models, i have saw yoshimura use springs in their setup and i belive it was on a z400 or some other bike that cals is talkin about i saw the springs attach to the headers at the motor....

My header is stainless steal, It HAS springs right up by the head where it connects the flanges to the header. I also have a removable end cap!
