Fuel Residue Question

I took my carb apart on my 250 today to clean it, and I came across something that struck me as kinda weird. The floats, jet, bowl, and a few other parts had kind of a greyish film over them. What caused this?

Ever use octane booster? That crap will leave deposits and residue on everything.
