well if your head stud pull out, you dont want to heli-coil them. you will need oversized studs.

GT Thunder has the studs for $60.

Make sure you purchase the HeliCoil brand...they will hold much better.

The part # you want is

5405-10

This is a kit that comes with everthing you need to repaire your threads.

Most any store that sells nuts and bolts should be able to get you one..or you can PM me and I will send you # where you can order one.

yo you DON'T want to put a heli coil in for head studs. the studs will just rip out again. you need to buy oversized studs which should have been done when building the 440.

if you use the helicoil brand and do it proper you will not have anymore trouble.

with all the pressure they have to with stand they will pull out. but why would you even want to take the chance, and then have to jut tear it down again:rolleyes:

heli coils do hold up in a pinch. I have had heli coils in my 426 for about a year now without trouble. All the pressure you say? My buddy has a 400ex with 440 kit and 4mil stoker to make it a 460 with 13:1 compression with heli coils, no problems to speak of. If i had the choice i would go with heavy duty studs but i needed a quick fix so that is why mine are heli coiled. They do work as long as they are installed correctly.

I think the helicoil done correctly is much stronger than the oversized studs. That is why I recomended that kit to him...it comes with all the tools to do it correctly. Like I said....you buy one of the cheap imatations at an auto parts store then you are asking for trouble...only use the HeliCoil brand. I order from a place in Nashville Tn.

Definitely get the HD studs from GT Thunder. Go to their website and they will tell what you need to install them. Have them in now with a 426 and have had no problems. You will blow the top end off of your motor before those HD studs will pull out. :D

Helicoils are perfect threads. There's a reason modern aluminum heads come with helicoiled sparkplug holes.;)
