whats some differences u can tell by looking at 300ex compared to a 400ex?

obvious are body and engine casing but im sure 400ex plastics and engine casing would fit on a 300ex...

any differences?

Frame, suspension, oil cooler, and gas tank.

The frame on the 400 is round tube and the 300ex is square.
The shocks are longer on the 400ex.
You cant miss the oil cooler on the front of the 400ex.
The 300ex uses a steel gas tank and the 400ex uses plastic.

ok cool...thanks for the info!!!

i bought my 400 but noticed that the plastic where the gas on/off is not centered and i read on here that is a common problem when people put 400ex bodies on a 300ex....was kinda worried cuz i bought the quad used and was hoping i didnt get raped

there is nothing similar about the two quads. I don't think any parts will interchange without mods. It is fairly common for people to put the a-arms on the 300ex but this requires mods to the frame or a bracket. I have heard of people putting the 400ex plastic on a 300...(the 400ex plastic is about 1/2 the price)

The easiest way for you to tell the difference is look at two things..Do you have reverse..unless its a 05 or 06 then the 400ex doesn't have reverse. The second thing to look at is the frame. The 400ex has a round tube frame where the 300ex was made from square tubing.

good luck

400ex a-arms bolt on a 300ex just fine without mods to the frame. We have +2 400ex a-arms on a 300ex. We did use the 400ex spindle and hubs to make a better match... We special ordered the shocks from Elka.

The 300ex spindle and hubs are steel while the 400ex is a lighter alloy. The 400ex front end combo is about half the weight of the stock 300ex.

The brake systems are the same. Axle nut is the same. Rear hubs the same. Carrier bearings are the same. From the starter relay back to the battery the electrical is the same. Oil filter is the same. Probably more is the same but I'd have to look closer.

I stand corrected.

How do you get the shock angle correct with the a-arms without moding the frame or using a bracket?

ya I dont have reverse and its a 2000...i guess the plastics arent on right then if they dont line up. Also, the part where you adjust the chain is different from, the 300 and the 400. I found that out in the service manual I bought.
