I have a 416ex and have a question about jetting! It is a JE 10.8:1 piston, Hot Cam stage II, Complete aftermarket exhaust, No air box, KN Filter, Stock Carb w/ Choke Mod, Dynojet Kit (needle, and main jet)

My dealer said 220 Main, needle in the 4th slot from the top and the 42 pilot which is already in cuz choke mod. Now i have been reading some of the setups on here and the 220 would be way off. So whats the deal? I have seen alot on here with like a 170 or in that ball park. Also how many turns out on the fuel mixture screw? 3, 3.5 ?

i wouldnt bother just going 3 turns out right away, start at 1 1/2 and go from there

I agree 220 sounds very rich.

Start with a 180. A little rich is better than too lean on breakin..

Basically on the air screw.. start at 1.5 turns .. then start her up. Keep turning it out slowly. The engine speed will increase as it turns out. Keep going until the engine stops increasing in speed. This is the rich => lean threshold. From there turn the screw back IN a 1/2 turn. This will get you a little richer for saftey.

On the needle.. just start out in the middle. It's easy to tune. At 1/4-3/4 throttle, if it cuts out/bogs, raise the needle. If it sputters lower it. 1 notch is actualy pretty obvious on the needle most of the time.

I had a similar set up and a 170 was to rich, I ran a 165 main. You might want to see what jets he was talking about, I believe I remember reading somewhere about different companies not having the same numbers for their jets.
