No worries. Remember, measure twice, cut once! Get some electrical tape and lay down a contour that you think would look cool. You can remove and readjust as many times as you want. Once you look at it and think, "yeah, I like that" then you start cutting. When I do it, I even cut a little bit away from the tape line to leave some room for error if I do slip. Any imperfections can be taken care of with sandpaper.

It's not like you just go at it and hope for the best; there's a lot of prep involved to make it look nice and factory

IMO, I say you should cut it because I think it looks 10x better than the stock elephant ears. But who am I to tell you what to do, it's your quad. Hope all goes well :)

How does cutting them cost anything? It would if you don't have something to cut them with i.e. hacksaw, tape/marker, and sandpaper. Otherwise it's a free mod isn't it?

When I bought my 400ex I was the same way. I didn't want to screw it up. I used electrical tape and stared at it and repositioned the lines about 20 times before I got it where I wanted it. I couldn't imagine having the fenders on my wheeler now, all they are are air catchers. They don't stop mud from hitting you. IMO the fronts are worthless.

i was wondering wouldnt it be better if i got air scoops first and then shave my fenders or vise virsa

Why would getting air scoops first be better? For what purpose? The only thing I can think of is for looks. Shaving your fenders doesn't cool the motor any more than it was before so it doesn't make a difference which one you do first. You can shave your fenders at anytime regardless of whether you have scoops or not.
So what are you asking? What we think would look better?

I say do both! Shave em' first and when you get the cash, add some scoops.

Here's a pic of mine: shaved front/rear and scooped

Only cut if you have an aftermarket front end - Everything else looks gay IMHO
