Yeah it happens. Occasionally, there's something I don't know.

I don't know anything about utility quads, or the hybrid "sport/utility" quads. Sure, I can go out and research it on my own, and I will, but I figure I would also utilize the vast knowledge base represented here on this board.

My girlfriend's mother would like to get an ATV. She's pushing 60, so she's definitely not looking for a YFZ450. She doesn't want or need a ton of power, so I'm thinking somewhere around 200-400cc. At first, I'm thinking 250EX.

However, automatic clutch isn't quite enough. She wants automatic transmission, but I don't think she has the huevos to handle a V-force, so that leaves me in the realm of utility quads, because she's a little too big for an LT80.

200-400cc, automatic transmission. Somebody give me some model names to look at.

How does the ESP from Honda work? Does it automatically shift gears up and down, or is it just electric shift that YOU select, like a push-button shifting?

Honda Rancher! I used to have one of these, excellent utility quad!! they're 350cc and the Rancher AT is automatic!

the bombardier outlander xt is supposed to be a really good fourwheeler. its an 800cc twin. its got 8" of travel in the front and 9" in the back. its supposed to be pretty quick too. and its got that two seater thing so her and her husband could ride if they wanted to. Or since u want 200-400 cc she could get the outlander 400. u can also get the 400 in a two seater. they are both supposed to be really good fourwheelers. oh yeah the 800 is an efi im not sure about the 400. they also have the rally spoty 200.

Yea, get her a rancher. Very durable, great ergonomics, automoatic, and i believe 4wd. Its only a 350 so its not overpowering either. And we all know a 350 ute is ALOt tamer than a 350 sport.

Shes gonna want the 4wd. You dont want her getting stuck with 2wd and trying to get off and lift it up.

i am going to tell you a 25 trail blazer ...ther nice quad for the average recreational rider...i have had no problems with polaris and i have owned three of them. Its should have enough power for her. Is is a two stoke though wether that is good or bad in your book. that would be a good opition..it sounds like my mom when we go riding..she is a recreational rider but it has enough to get through alot...I would recremend that ATV for her.(sorry if i repeated my self..

The other requirement is that she wants to find a used one for around $1500. I don't think that's going to be possible. I might find a used Rancher for that price, but it certainly won't be the 4wd AT version.

Sounds like shes looking for a Polaris Trailboss 330. Automatic w/ Reverse...only thing I don't like is that is has no engine braking....you can get it I believe as an option, but thats just 1 thing I don't like about em...the seats are more comfortable then ever and they just soak up the bumps going at a normal slow trail riding pace. They are rather heavy, but sounds perfect for what you are describing.

my dad is turning 60 next year and he rides a sportsman 335. My dad enjoys riding it because it is so stable and so easy to ride. I would recomend any type of polaris because they are very reliable and are very easy/fun to ride

I think the outlander 400 2 seater would be the best way to go, if you have the money for one. 1500 dollars isn't gonna get you much and it would probably have some stuff that would need to be fixed. But you can probably find a decent polaris for that price.

used polaris's are everywhere... they are kinda unrealiable and most are 2 strokes so they can be a pain but they are probalby the most popular begineer quads....


yamaha also has a few auto quads like the kodiak 400...

I'd say the Polaris Trail Blazer 250 is your best bet. My wife started on one of these and rode it for 2 years (not any problems with it) before swithching to a 400EX. These are very stable, have reverse, and are easy to handle. You should be able to pick up a 2002 for somewhere around $1500.

yep exactly like the last guy said...Trailblazer 250...

i used to have one and it was an awesome beginner quad - not too much power...but enough to have fun with. Fully automatic and has reverse - what more do you want?

my mom is riding a polaris phoenix. It's easy to drive, light and as a soft suspension and we bought it brand new for 3600$ can, so about 3000$ us

in our group of riders most of the "older" women in the group ride the Polaris scrambler. fully automatic 4wd plenty of power to go any where needed it is a great way to go. they have the feel and control of a sport bike and a soft comfy ride of a utility.
