JUST BOUGHT A 2001 400EX FOR REAL CHEAP. $1000. ONLY PROBLEM IS THE BEARINGS ARE BAD IN THE SWINGARM. IM NOT SURE HOW SEVERE THE PROBLEM IS AND HOW MUCH $$$ IM GETTING INTO. THE ENTIRE AXEL MOVES SIDE TO SIDE AND FRONT TO BACK. IT ALSO MAKES BAD GRIDING NOISES. I KNOW THE BEARINGS ARE BAD BUT COULD IT BE WORSE? LET ME KNOW.

at worst, you need a new axle and carrier along with bearings. the carrier and bearing you can get for 150 or so i think, and a new stock axle should go for real cheap on ebay. take the carrier

HOW GOOG ARE THE CHANCES THAT I'LL ACTUALY NEED MORE WORK THAN JUST THE BEARINGS?

Most likey you will need the axle, and carrier. If the carrier is still, I would be surprised. If you are lucky, you will only need the carrier. I would also check the front a-arm bushing and ball joints. Even if you have to put $500 into the quad you have a good buy.
