top speed is about 63mph
if u pipe it and jet it to a 165 (thats for the hmf slip on) it will probably be about 66-67

Check the gearing because my friend had a blaster that went faster than that! That's just said:ermm:

I used a GPS on my 06 400ex and it does about 66, 67 stock

yea i checked it out i have a 400ex its got the two lights in front and i counted every tooth on each sprocket it is stock 15 / 38 i used a gps thats how i knew it went that fast i think them 35.5 carbs r junk or maybe the carb is pluged or something, so im getting kind of mad because i thought it went faster i'll see what u guys have to say.

are u shure the gps is correct maby try haveing a friend drive a car along side and see what his speedomiter says. also are your tires smaller it will change the gearing.

umm ya 50mph on 05 400ex would have to be wrong mine did 67 68 on highway and maybe 73 or so downhill:D so theirs something thats gotta be wrong their

if this matters my tires r kind of bald but not that much, i dont really have anybody that would follow me with a car, would being on blacktop help with traction or not. maybe my gps's bateries r going down or something and no my tires airnt small their stock

400exstud

Bald tires would probably make it go faster on top end. Bald tires= less weight, less weight = more speed.

Does it run right if it is lugging in low RPM and you just punch it to wide open? If not then your jetting may be to blame. If that is not the case.........then you may be on your own.

400exstud what are u talking about bald tires wont make the atv that much lighter you would not even be able to tell much difference in weight whether they where brand new or not. get your facks strait. and honda#4 when you hit fith gear do you bring your rpms up all the way because if you do and you say you have stock gearing and stock tires you must be atleast doing 60+ MPH.

THATS AN AWSOME SPEED CALCULATOR!

Honda#4
09-16-2005, 09:12 AM
i dont totally pin it all the way maybe thats it or something i run a little or 3/4 throttle just so nothing goes caput. maybe it's just the gps i think because when u go it takes a little bit to get started. one more thing whats the stock rpm's supose to be.

I did 92mph... it's on a EX..but not stock lol ....you should be getting 65

Also dont forget the speed calculator is only theoretical, it doesn't include air drag, and friction drag from the tires! It also doesn't include crappy jetting:blah:

44oEX
09-16-2005, 11:31 AM
well not really....if you can hit the RPM the air and what ever won't efect anything...as long as you can hit the RPM you say you can hit

09-16-2005, 12:54 PM
I got 72 hauling past one of thoes police radars that sit on the side of the road...... it was after a dounhill.

yeah that sounds about right..for stock

Honda#4

and one more thing i thought of my tires do have green slime in them would that make a difference in speed.

400exc
09-17-2005, 07:33 PM
it shouldnt make a difference in speed, the green slime is probably for to keep the tires sealed, and my ex went 72 yesterday clocked by a car beside me, only an air filter on it, nothin else

Honda#4

i just cant figure it out why my 400 goes so slow. i think for the $6500 i have i would buy a better bigger motor and a new carb as well.

wind drag does efect it. my 450r went 106.67 mph on dyno but I only can grt 96mph in the 1/4 mile and 93 mph in the 1/8 mile so there is yout wind /drag factor.

44oEX
09-18-2005, 08:20 AM
yes wind drag thos effect the speed...but, if you look at the site that jersey450R posted...you have to put the RPM your running at to find out your top speed....that top RPM would be in real life not on a dyno....so lets say your going down the road at 8000RPM, well if you put that in, it will give you your exact speed...the wind will slow you down and you just won't rev out as high....on the dyno it you can hit say 10000...and on the road with the wind you can only hit maybe 9500 well the speed won't be as fast..but it's still right with the RPM's

i dont know i can have the same atv as everyone on here and mines the slowest piece of crap on here i think i would trade it for a 450r. i put new batteries in my gps and im gonna try going down the highway one more time to see if that matters putting news batts in or not.

what kind of gps do you have? I have a garmin E-TRex and it messes up alot. my speeds calculated will change with the differant location on the quad. something messes with it on my quads at times might be something like that. mine has been dropped alot though. used it for testing rc car speeds and went through alot of wrecks LOL...

i finally got it up to 60mph tonight maybe it was the throttle or something i dont know.
