New to the Forum. Trying to get some ideas to get my sons 300EX ready for next year to race our local series. Right now were running a DG pipe with a 400EX carb. I know people sugggest using Curtis Sparks pipes but what Carb gives you maximum performance. I haven't seen alot of aftermarket carbs for the 300EX is it worth spending the extra money over the inexpensive easy to get 400EX carb? Interested in your advice.
As soon as i get my digital figured out(NEW) I'll post pictures of my sons bikes. He has two nice 300EX's his race bike has a long travel houser front end and a laundry list of aftermarket stuff.

i think the 400 carb would be fine, unless you just feel like buyin a expensive brand name carb.... umm i would definately get another pipe(no offence i just dont like DG), i would look into a pro circuit t4, or hmf/wb combo;) ... im puttin one or the other on mine i cant decide but i think im goin with the hmf

Hey Darren,

After talking with you about it at Splendora a few weeks ago, I decided that the 400ex carb works good enough but you should modify the air box like I did with Josh's ex. Next time we are at the track, remind me and I'll show you what I did to increase the air flow.

The 400ex carb is excelent for the 300ex. A 350x air boot, compliments it well too.. it breathes a little better.

You didn't say but make sure you're running a good filter. (K&N, Uni, TwinAir, whichever you prefer).

After that, look into a cam. Should give you a decent boost in the rpm range you desire.

Also look into modding the rev limiter to add another 1000rpm. The 300 is limited way too low.

After that, you want to look into suspension before any more motor mods. Aftermarket suspension on a 300ex is HUGE. (but liks like you already have it. ;))

Then finally, you look into High Comp Pistons, Port/Polish, Big Valves, etc...

i think you should wait and ride your 300ex a little bit more cause you sound kinda new to it

so get use to it and then start buying stuff for it

get a k and n air filter first then a exaust then rejet

good price
also look into Super Trapp
I have the IDS-2 Full Race System and that is all i have on my 300ex performance wise and I can keep up with mildly worked blasters and 300's. I love it and it sounds good
I got my Supertrapp here

i feel a big difference. It isnt too loud but it is a nice "race sound". Just remember if you buy it you can adjust the sound because it uses disks inside the silencer so you can adjust it for sound and performance. I also have a dynojet jet kit and k&n filter so that helps even more... Dont forget to rejet
