I have just picked up a 2001 Sporttrax:

Dyna Jet Kit
White Bros - E series
K&N Filter air filter
Renthal Bars.

Pretty cool bike ay! I am new to ATV's but it squeaks a lot when I am riding, especially when I am rolling slow on it.

Any suggestions for a fix?

Thanks for any advice,
Mike.

we had a squeak on my sons 400 and it was the bushing in the bottom of the right front shock, just took it out put some lube on it reinstalled and now its quiet, could be upper bushing too, good idea to lube them all

Both lower shock bushings on our year-old 400EX were dry as a bone and rusty. I don't think they are lubed from the factory.

Are the lower and upper shock bushings hard to take out?

What kind of lubrication should I use on the bushings?

Thanks for all your advice -- its been really helpful.

Take care, Mike.

Are the bushings hard to take out -- I am new to working on bikes?

Do I need any special tools to take out the bushings?

Thanks, Mike.

just unbolt your shocks, pop the end caps off and shove some greese in there. Its a really really really really good idea to take your a-arms off once a year and lube up those bushings as well as your swing arm bearings. If you do this about every season your bushigns and bearings will last sooo much longer. Oh you cant forget your carrier bearings too.

Hey Bro -- Thanks for all the advice! Much appreciated and you just saved me about $85 per hour in shop fees.

Ride hard or go home!

Grease the steering stem bushing too. You will have to remove the front plastic enough to get access to the two bolts holding the cover over the bushing (a 5 minute job).

If it is dry, it will squeak and also makes it much harder to turn the handlebars back and forth.

I bought a used 04 400ex, the quad had 15 hrs on it and the whole front end sqeaked like crazy. I greased all the bushings and bolts in the upper and lower control arms as well as the shocks, it's quiet and smooth as butter now.

Don't forget about your swingarm bearings either. It's kind of a pain but you'll save yourself from a major headache later.

Marine grease works well too since it is made to stay on even in salt water.
