Yadkinville, NC - After a two month break, the GNCC Series resumed to complete the final four races of the thirteen race series with the season finale at the "Ironman" on October 22-23rd.

The morning racing action was intense with Walker Fowler claiming yet another overall win aboard his Hetrick Kasea, and by the dust cloud that formed in the woods during the Youth Race, it obvious that the Morning and Afternoon races were both going to be extremely dusty.

The dusty conditions didn't keep this young spectator from watching the racing action with her stuffed lamb at her side.

As already mentioned inLive Coverage (http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=180819) both Mike Penland and Scott Kilby teamed up with Bombardier during the Summer Break after Bombardier contacted Mike Penland to see if he would be interested in riding their newly released Outlander 800.

After Mike Penland had the opportunity to ride one of these new machines and with out a sponsorship program with Kawasaki for 2005 after they cut back their program, he made the switch to Bombardier after notifying Kawasaki of his situation and opportunity.

Mike penland wanted everyone to know that he is still actively involved in producing performance products for the Kawasaki machines even though he has made the switch to Bombardier, which ofcourse, he is in the process of developing new products for the Outlander 800.

ATV Rider Journalist, Thad Josey, received the inside scoop on the Bombardier's newly formed team, which will be released in the next issue of ATV Rider.

After racing #3 Chris Borich's Honda 450R at the Wisp, he headed to the line this Round on Mike Penland's practice Bombardier Outlander to get a first hand racing perspective on this new machine.

Mike Penland wasn't the only rider to make an ATV switch midseason. #203 Ken Robey made the switch to the Kawasaki Prairie at Round #7 after having numerous issues with his Suzuki. The change was a smart move for Robey because he hasn't finished worst than second place since and has quickly jumped into the points race for the Championship with Mike Penland and Michael Swift.

Kevin Johnston isn't alone in drawing attention to Breast Cancer awareness as Ron Moore also displayed the Maier Pink Fender displaying "Racing 4 a Cure."

It was great to see these guys make a stand for a cause they believe in and doing it by running pink plastic, which probably wouldn't be their first choice otherwise.

#330 Thomas Wright only needed to finish in the top 20 this weekend in the 35+ C Class to wrap up the Championship, even if John Saxon took the Class win. Unfortunately, he didn't need to worry about anything but finishing because Saxon wasn't in attendance due to the damage his house in Lucedale, MS received from Hurricane Katrina.

I am making an attempt to contact John Saxon because I am hoping that ATVriders.com members will join together and help get him back on his feet as soon as possible, so I will keep everyone posted as more details become available.

ATVriders.com Member David Hunsucker( Lurkin) made his third trip the starting line this season to compete in the GNCC series and he equipped his helmet with a camera to record all the racing action.

The Top Three Stock class riders(Jarrod McClure, Chris Neal, and Billy Good) were on the starting line catching up on what each of them were doing over the summer. Although they may be fierce competitors on the track, the majority of the stock class riders are friends, which makes racing in the class so much more fun.

#31 Dave Simmons wrapped up the Senior Class Championship with 9 consecutive wins and remained the only undefeated rider in the GNCC Series this season, so he decided to see what he could do in the Stock Class aboard a brand new and redesigned 2006 YFZ450.

Sure Dave is a Senior rider and over 40 years old, but he is still a force to be reckon with in any class as he proved last year when he finshed 2nd in the Pro Am Class and 12th Overall at the Ironman to finish out his season.

Admin
09-11-2005, 07:32 PM
#35 Josh Whitehead also decided to give the Stock Class a try with his new 2005 Honda 450R even after finishing 19th Overall and 8th in the Pro Am Class at the Mountaineer.

As the Stock Class becomes more prestigious, I expect to see even more highly talented riders give the class a run in 2006.

Kyrie Brafferd (Lil-Braff) was also on the line for her first chance to compete in the Women's Class aboard her Quadshop 300EX after turning 16 over the summer break.

#206 Angel Atwell headed into the summer break with her first official win of the season, and she didn't take it lightly as she spent most of the summer racingt in various local events against the men to improve her chances earning atleast one more win against the two fastest GNCC racers Stephanie Parton and Traci Cecco.

Angel also picked up a Big Gun Sponsorship after her Wisp performance and was sporting a new graphics kit and Big Gun exhaust system, Congratulations to both Big Gun and Angel Atwell.

On a sad note, Fred Mudd, has been a major contributor to the Morning Race Coverage this year, but he will mostly likely miss the remaining races this season because he is scheduled for Knee surgery.

I wish Fred a speedy recovery and hopefully he will be back in action at the Ironman, and if anyone would be interested in helping ATVriders.com cover the remaining morning races or assist with the "Live Coverage", I want to hear from you.

Please send me an email webmaster@atvriders.com

Thanks again Fred for all your help this season!!!! :D

It was finally time for the morning prayer, and I couldn't think of a better way to hear it than 35+ Rider, Rodney Baker, did with his daughter as she wraps her arm around him.

With the singing of the National Anthem, my biggest supporter, Ed Foley stands with his arm on his chest and stares across the starting line at the America Flag waving in the wind.

My father not only pits for me, but he also does his best to take as many photos as possible for me to share with everyone for the morning coverage, and then he spends countless hours afterwards driving while I begin preparing the coverage, and I will hate to see the day when he is no longer able to do all he does for me and ATVriders.com.

#444 Jamie Bougher barely avoids hooking his front tire on the turn post.

Admin
09-11-2005, 08:24 PM
Heading into the Woods, Jarrod McClure tagged a tree with Harlen Foley getting hung up behind him, which allowed a freight train of riders including Jason Bougher to roll past the pair, which was going to make for a long day of racing.

Meanwhile, #35 Josh Whitehead stalled his Honda and required a quick push start to get started again, but unfortunately for Whitehead, he would only complete one lap after wrecking, which resulted in apparently a broken collarbone.

Get well Soon!!!

22-28 C Class Start

Clinton Stephen's wasted no time putting his new 2006 YFZ450 out front early just as did Dave Simmons did in the Stock Class, which is no surprise if you had an oppurtunity to ride the newly improved YFZ450.

29-34 C Class Start

Scott Wilson and James Barron battled for the lead heading through turn one

Admin
09-11-2005, 08:33 PM
Unfortunately for Scott Wilson, he stayed too hard on the gas heading into turn two, which caused him to spin out. James Barron took over the lead and took a glimpse over his shoulder to see what happened to Wilson.

Admin
09-11-2005, 08:36 PM
Scott was able to regain control and jump back into race mid pack, but was able to work his way back up into 2nd Place by the end of the first lap, but James Barron had a comfortable 1:42 minute lead over Wilson and would maintain the lead to the finish line for his second win of the season.

Admin
09-11-2005, 08:38 PM
35+ C Class Start

Gary Whitecare took the Holeshot honor in the 35+ Class with Alan Root aboard his Honda 450R right behind him.

Admin
09-11-2005, 08:44 PM
Alan Copeland (Gump) didn't have much to celebrate on his birthday with a near last place start while the the points leader, Thomas Wright continued to sit on the line in the background trying to get his Honda started.

Admin
09-11-2005, 08:47 PM
Utility Stock Start

The battle was one for the Holeshot in the Utility Stock Class with Michael Swift, Mike Penland, and Chuck Ward all side by side heading into turn one.

Admin
09-11-2005, 08:49 PM
#346 Michael Swift would secure the lead with Sam Williams moving his way into second place ahead of Mike Penland and Ken Robey.

Admin
09-11-2005, 08:52 PM
Following the Utility Stock Class was Thomas Wright finally getting his Honda started and amazingly he was able to pass his way through the Utility Class and into half way through the 35+ Class to 14th by the end of the 1st lap.

Admin
09-11-2005, 08:55 PM
16-21 C Class Start

The Class leader, Brent Flotz, grabbed the Holeshot followed by Nick Devore, but by the end of the 1st lap, Travis Shaffer had taken over the lead with Brent Foltz dropping back to second place only five seconds back.

Admin
09-11-2005, 08:57 PM
Utility Modified Start

Jason White's highly modified Brute Force out powered Clifton Beasley's Prairie into turn one with Scott Kilby's virtually stock Bombardier Outlander 800 hanging tight behind the pair.

Admin
09-11-2005, 08:59 PM
Bryan Buckhannon and Jim Stack aboard their Honda's swung wide heading into turn one chasing after the leaders.

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:03 PM
Meanwhile, Clifton Beasley took over the lead heading down the straight away before hanging a right hand turn into the woods.

Amazingly, by the end of the 1st lap, Jim Stack would charge his way through the pack and take over the lead with his brand new Stock Honda with Scott Kilby moving in behind him.

09-11-2005, 09:05 PM
Utility Unlimited Start

Brock Parker immediately made his presence known with his Holeshot while Ron Moore, Doug Henke, and Robert Obrick in chase.

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:10 PM
Parker quickly began to pull away from the pack with Neil Belcher moving his Hybrid Polaris into 2nd place ahead of Ron Moore in 3rd.

By the end of the 1st lap, Kirk Eger moved into 2nd place and only 5 seconds behind Parker with Belcher in third, but Kirk Eger would only complete two laps which would put Belcher back up to second place.

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:14 PM
16-24 First Year Racer

Ronnie Staten put his Polaris Predator out front with Tyler Martin close behind, and Martin would go on to pass Staten and take over the lead by the end of the 1st lap and go on to win the race with Staten finishing in 2nd place with Nathan Randolph only 3 seconds behind him at the finish line.

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:15 PM
Mark Ambrose was last off the line, and unfortunately his troubles didn't stop there as he only completed one lap in his first attempt at a GNCC race.

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:18 PM
25+ First Year Racer

Ryan Cook held the early lead ahead of Jason Clay, but by the end of the 1st lap, Danny Aldermann would take over the lead with Clay maintaining the second spot with Justin Perry moving into 3rd.

On the last lap, Justin Perry would take over the lead and win the race with Jason Clay finishing 26 seconds behind him in 2nd Place and Ryan Cook would drop back to finish 12th after a 56 minute last lap.

09-11-2005, 09:21 PM
With clear and dust free air in front of her, Stephanie Parton wasted no time in extending her lead over her fellow Women's Class Competitors.

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:23 PM
Angel Atwell was able to keep Stephanie Parton within striking distance for the first lap, but she began to feel ill as the race progressed which took the wind out of her sail.

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:24 PM
Traci Cecco would make the pass on Angel to move into 2nd place behind Stephanie in lap two, but had a 45 second gap to overcome heading into the 3rd lap.

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:27 PM
#30 Dave Simmons was able to put 20 seconds between him and Will Cashion by the end of the 1st lap, and extended it to 29 seconds by lap two, but in the third lap, Will Cashion great charge would come to an end as he began to quickly drop back in the pack.

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:30 PM
Chris Neal would take over the 2nd spot as Will Cashion began to fade with Billy Good and Jarrod McClure hot on his rear as the trio charged through the woods in a tight pack trying to reel in Simmons out front.

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:34 PM
Bill Halenbeck held down the 6th spot for the three laps while Harlen Foley, Erik Haspel, and John Wright were having an intense battle for the 7th spot swapping position back and forth on several occasions while mostly playing follow the leader through the tight and dusty track.

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:37 PM
Jamie Bougher was having his best race of the season keeping as he battled with Matt Hanna the first lap before Hanna was able to make the pass dropping Bougher back to 11th place where he would stay to the end and finish a season best 15th Overall:macho

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:40 PM
Ken Vickerd jumped out to a huge lead in the first lap, but a slow second lap would allow Richard Rudloff to make up a 2.5 minute gap and take over the lead.

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:43 PM
John Gallagher was able to hold on to finish second place ahead of Ken Vickerd, but the race put a beaten on his wrist after he reinjured and old wrist injury over the summer break, but he felt it was fully healed up, but it wasn't as he was in some pain after the race, but he still wouldn't let it stop him from finishing the race.

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:46 PM
Jennifer Albright dropped back to 5th place behind Stefanie Verkade where the pair remained to the end of the race with Shanna Bradshaw just missing a top five finish with her 6th place finish.

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:50 PM
Thomas Wright's Charge continued as he continued to work his way through the 35+ C Class mile marker by mile marker, and by the end of the race, he worked from over a minute down in last place to within one minute of the class winner, Glen Pritchard with Thomas Wright finishing in second Place, which was plenty enough to wrap up his Class Championship.

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:52 PM
Ken Robey's extended his consecutive wins in the Utility Stock Class to three as he applies the pressure to Mike Penland in his attempt to win his 12th GNCC Championship.

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:54 PM
Kevin Trantham battled with Ken Robey for the lead for three laps and was on his way to second place finish, but he never completed the final lap which dropped him back to 7th place.

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:56 PM
Michael Swift held onto the 3rd spot in the Utility Stock Class after the first lap with Mike Penland applying the pressure in 4th.

Admin
09-11-2005, 09:57 PM
Mike Penland's new rider definitely isn't lacking any horsepower as he was able to walk away from Honda 450R and Yamaha YFZ450 machines down the straight-a-ways.

Admin
09-11-2005, 10:00 PM
Penland was able to pass swift in the second lap and moved up into 2nd place after Kevin Trantham dropped out of the race in the 4th lap and was gaining speed with every lap as he became more comfortable with his new ride.

Admin
09-11-2005, 10:03 PM
Jim Stack put in his best race of the season holding off Scott Kilby's charge for two laps, but in the 3rd lap, Kilby was able to make the pass and pull almost a two minute lead over Stack in second place by end of the race.

Admin
09-11-2005, 10:07 PM
Scott Kilby wrapped up the Utility Modified Championship with his win and debut of his new Bombardier Outlander and just like Penland, Kilby's laptimes improved with every lap and his last lap time of 35:17 was faster than any of Utility Stock or Utility Modified riders in any lap during the race.

Congratulations Scott Kilby on a great race and your new Bombardier ride.

Admin
09-11-2005, 10:09 PM
Jason White would finish in 4th place behind Clifton Beasley in the Utility Modified Class for his best finish since the Penton

Admin

Thad Josey finished out the race in 12th place in the Utility Stock Class aboard Penland's Practice machine.

Tne North Carolina Native Cherokee Indian, Brock Parker, was on the warpath as he dominated the Utility Unlimited Class leading from start to finish and pulling a five minute lead of second place finisher Neil Belcher.

Brock Parker didn’t show any signs of missing the last few races, and hopefully he has plans to attend the remaining races to make the Utility Unlimited an even more exciting race to watch.

Admin
09-12-2005, 05:54 AM
Doug Henke is normally a force to reckon with in the class, but this was going to be his weekend after working his way up to 3rd place behind Belcher, he never finished the last lap, which sent him back to 6th with Robert Obrick finishing his second best finish of the season with 3rd place.

Admin
09-12-2005, 05:57 AM
Kevin Johnston also had an off weekend after getting off to a slow start, he ended up running into mechanical problems in the 2nd lap, which dropped him out of the race.

Admin
09-12-2005, 05:59 AM
Brentz Foltz wrapped up the 16-21 C Class Championship with his 4th Win of the season after Kevin Yoho DNFed the race

Admin
09-12-2005, 09:09 AM
Stephanie Parton rode at a blistering pace the entire race to the Overall Win and her first podium appearance of the 2005 season, and in the process she picked up her fifth Women’s Class win of the season, which is one more than the current points leader Traci Cecco.

With three throwaways in the Amateur Classes, the number of wins and second place finishes is normally the deciding factor in the Women’s class.

Admin
09-12-2005, 09:09 AM
With adjusted time, Dave Simmons finished only 20 seconds behind Stephanie Parton to earn the Stock Class Win and 2nd Overall as he extended his winning streak to 10 consecutive races

Admin
09-12-2005, 09:10 AM
Both Jarrod McClure and Billy Good were able to make the pass on Chris Neal in the third lap after he rear ended Traci Cecco after she tagged a tree going through the woods.

Billy Good feeling the pressure of Jarrod McClure would also clip a tree, which was enough to allow Jarrod around him and begin his charge to reel in Dave Simmons.

Simmons took an extended pit stop on the last lap, which allowed McClure to close the gap on Simmons, but McClure wasn’t able to make the pass before the finish line and finished just 2 seconds behind Simmons in 2nd Place in the Stock Class and third overall, which was his 7th Podium appearance this season tying Billy Good mark for the season.

Billy Good would finish in 3rd place and 4th Overall, which would put him in position to wrap up the Stock Class Championship at Unadilla if he finishes in 5th place or higher even if Jarrod McClure would win the remaining races.

Admin
09-12-2005, 09:10 AM
Bill Hallenbeck made an impressive GNCC debut finishing 4th in the Stock Class and 5th Overall after fighting his way through the dust for 2 hours.

I suspect that he will be sticking around for the remainder of the season or atleast returning for Round #12 at St. Clairsville considering he made the long drive from Harrisville, PA to compete in North Carolina this weekend and St. Clairsvlle will only a be two hours drive.

Admin
09-12-2005, 09:10 AM
Chris Neal looked on his way to yet another podium appearance, but it wasn’t meant to be as he dropped back to finish in 6th Overall

Admin
09-12-2005, 09:11 AM
Traci Cecco would have needed a plenty of luck this weekend to catch Stephanie Parton after she jumped out to the early lead. Traci Cecco passed Angel Atwell in the second lap and put in a hard charge recording a laptime 3 seconds faster than Stephanie Parton, but the gap between was still 45 seconds, and the costly mistake of hitting a tree in the third lap, and she dropped back to over 2 minutes behind Stephanie, but it still didn’t discourage her as she rode hard the entire race to a second place finish.

Admin
09-12-2005, 09:11 AM
Erik Haspel put in his best ride of the season finishing 8th Overall after him and Harlen Foley battled back and forth several times during the race, but after Foley missed a short cut turn, Haspel capitalized on the opportunity and made the pass and shortly afterwards hit a tree and rolling over, but Foley wasn’t able to anything besides wait for Haspel to upright his 450R and get going again because the section was too tight to attempt to pass.

Foley pitted for fuel shortly afterwards banking on attempting to reel back in Haspel on the last lap, but it wasn’t meant to be as lapped traffic and fatigue began to set in and actually would drop back one more position within a mile of the finish line when a lapped traffic blocked his path and allowed John Wright to go around and make the pass to finish 7th with Foley finishing 8th and 10th Overall

Admin
09-12-2005, 09:11 AM
After a great start, Angel Atwell wasn’t feeling well by the end of the race and it was evident in her riding as she dropped well off her blistering pace, but had a four minute cushion over Stefani Verakade and easily went on to finish in 3rd place in the Women’s Class and 11th Overall.

Sorry there weren’t more photos and some from the woods, but it was just too dusty to even attempt to take them without risking the chance of ruining the camera, and even the scorers were doing everything they could to avoid breathing in the dust.

This photo of 16-24 First Year Racer, Ronnie Staten, tells it all for the conditions in many sections of the track.

This photo of Ronnie Staten tells it all for the conditions in many sections of the track.

Buren Hamrick did an excellent job of creating a tight track that zigzagged its way through the woods, but with the dust combined with the tight one lined track made it virtually impossible to pass, and hopefully next year more alternative lines are added along with field sections to give the riders more opportunities to pass the slower riders, which would make for a more exciting event from a riders perspective.

The facility itself was awesome with one of the best roads and plenty of level parking and local vendor participation, which made for an enjoyable weekend, and if you were an ice cream lover and didn’t get some of the homemade ice cream at the track, you really missed out

Special thanks to Pappy, Bart, and Ed for taking all the action photos from the Morning race.

If anyone that enjoys the race coverage on ATVriders.com enough to want to get involved in helping make it even better, I want to hear from you because there are so many things that I wish that I could do, but I am only one person with only a few people willing to help out which is greatly appreciated because otherwise the coverage couldn’t be half of what it is today.

Even if you can’t attend all the races, you could help from home with the Live Coverage updates because it is very difficult to take photos, race, get results, and interviews while providing the Live Coverage, but with some help, it can be possible.

If you are interested please call, Harlen Foley, 410 596-8211, or send an email to webmaster@atvriders.com and I thank you in advance.

We had a great time at this facilty and hope they add it to the series. Parking was great, location was great and the overall layout was pretty good. The ice cream was a hit along with the food stand staying open late and being open early!
